Help with paying Ameren bills in Missouri

Low-income families who are struggling may get financial help from Ameren in Missouri. The energy company provides people who need help, including seniors or the disabled, with assistance for paying their utility, electric and heating bills, including in an emergency. LIHEAP grant money, weatherization, Dollar More, and payment plans are just a few of the resources provided. Find how to get help with Ameren MI bills below.

The main customer service number to apply at is below. Some of the resources are provided directly by Ameren, and others are run in partnership with non-profits and government organizations. The goal is to help a low-income family get emergency electric bill help as well as long term support, if they are qualified. There may also be government grants to pay a deposit to turn on Ameren power.

Financial help for Ameren MO low-income families

The Ameren Missouri Dollar More program is funded by customer donations, as well as contributions from local businesses as well as matching funds and grants directly from the Ameren Corporation. The Dollar More program helps pay for a diverse type of utility bills, including gas, oil, propane, heating, and electric. All contributions made are tax deductible, and a network of non-profit and human services agencies run the program on behalf of Ameren in Missouri. The United Way is also in close contact. The federal government as well as Missouri Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, better known as LIHEAP, has primary two components for Ameren customers. They include an Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP) as well as Regular Heating assistance.

The crisis component will provide cash and grants to customers in short order to help them avoid a shut off. Or it can provide assistance to an Ameren customer if they are low on or running out of heating oil or fuel during the winter. In some cases, a local non-profit may provide a free fan or help during the summer colling months as well. This program can be applied to at regional organizations in Missouri, and the United Way 211 service or a community action agency in Missouri can be a source of information.

The regular program can offer limited amounts of financial assistance to help pay utility and heating bills for Ameren Missouri customers. Aid is passed out during the fall and winter months of October, November, December, January, February, and March. Your family size, household income, and other factors go into determining eligibility.

Save money on your Ameren energy bills from free Weatherization Improvements. Families with children, seniors, and disabled persons are given preference for this conservation program, which is paid for by the federal government. Some of the free improvements and updates made to homes can include insulation, caulking, water heater jackets, and weather stripping. There may also be free window repair or replacement for Ameren low-income families or seniors in Missouri.

 

 

 

Missouri Cold Weather Rule runs during the winter, from November 1 to March 31 of each year. This will ensure that customers are offered a payment plan, and will not have their service disconnected during the winter without reasonable notice provided. Households are legally protected from having their power shut off during this timeframe.

What will happen is that Ameren in Missouri will send a disconnect notice to customer at least 10 days prior to the date of service discontinuance. This can provide the Missouri customer more time to get assistance before their heat or gas is shut off. In addition, representatives from Ameren Missouri will make attempt to notify the low income customer within 96 hours of the scheduled service discontinuance. Programs administered directly by Ameren to Missouri families

Most of the resources above are government organized and paid for. Below you will find services and financial assistance that is offered and coordinated by Ameren itself, sometimes in partnership with local non-profit organizations.

Ameren Missouri Payment Agreement – Before disconnection during the cold weather rule period, customers may be qualified for a one-time cash Payment Agreement. Customers will need to be put on a Budget Billing plan, need to pay down 12% plus the average balance down, and the balance needs to be paid over 12 months. Low income customers will not receive a late charge on their account if they enroll into this service. So provided customers make an effort to pay their bills and enter into contracts to do so, their power can be kept on.

EnergyCare is offered in the St. Louis Metro Area. Some of the services offered include energy bill assistance counseling, assistance in completing energy grant applications, home weatherization, and emergency heating/cooling grants for the low income members of the community.

Ameren Missouri Keeping Current program can provide qualified low income customers with a credit on their cooling or heating bills. This is only offered if the customer keeps current with their current monthly payments. Agencies across Missouri that run the Dollar More program will also help people sign up for Keeping Current.
