Re: No water for 2 months and need help to turn it back on

Hi Gwendolyn
You did not say where. While water bill help, and programs to turn it back on, our not common use our community action directory. Then scroll down to pick your state/area, as those non-profits may have options for you or give referrals.
MBerger wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 9:54 am Hi, my name is Gwendolyn, and I am desperately seeking help with my water bill. I am a single stay-at-home mom of five with no help, no income, no transportation, no anything. I received assistance from Community Action Partners for my electric bill, but they do not have funding for the water bill. I have reached out to all agencies and churches in the Metroplex. I called out to the state building in Austin. I still cannot get anyone to assist me and now my water was shut off 2 days ago.
So I ended up speaking with the director of the water department, and he was able to keep my water on for as long as he could, but they have now closed out my account. I have been here two weeks with no water. I received a housing voucher because I was homeless for six months prior to moving here, so with me having housing I have to have my utilities on or I will be looking toward homelessness again.
If anyone could please help me, could you please give me a call or email me back here. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

I am not sure what to do, or if you are in the right place for this problem. I have been renting an apartment from 2012 till today. My landlord passed away, and he had a something like an $8000 water bill. His power of attorney is his sister, Carla. She lives in Germany, and I have NO WAY to get in touch with her.
The water comp shut off the water, and for months now I have trying to do WHATEVER I have to for the water to be turned back on. I have been getting different stories of the policies that I have to do, which was give the water comp access to change the meter, which the landlord was not giving them access to the basement. I have been doing my best to get this water back on. My son will be 2 in April, and I don't think it's fair that I have to make other arrangements for his bath, etc. He needs a humidifier to be used every night, and sometimes I just can't ski because I'm extremely upset about how many people who work for the water company
They told me NUMEROUS TIMES to get the meter updated, and I have to go to the office with my rent receipts and the utility bills, which are gas and electric. Those are both in my name, and get the water switched to my name, and I would be responsible for the water gluing forward till I move. At that time, I'd get ALL UTILITIES SHUT OFF. The water camp now tells me if I want the water turned back, I am responsible for paying THE ENTIRE BALANCE! 1ST AND FOREMOST, I HAVEN'T EVER BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WATER BILLS SINCE I MOVED IN!
Can you please let me know what to do, or my rights for my son? I have already filed a complaint against the water camp with the PUC. I was talking to a few friends who said get a lawyer and try calling the news stations in my city to come out and do an interview. I just wanted to make sure that's the best, most effective way to go about getting the water turned back on.
Please, if you can help me or give me an idea what I should do about this, e-mail me or call. My name is Dawn, and I'd appreciate this situation be dealt with legally, if I need to.

Hi Aisha,
FISH where? What county, etc. As we can see if we can get a better number for you. Otherwise, we do have general information about how to turn on utility service.
While that page is more focused on "utilities" in general, much of it can apply to water service too. But there is no way to actually get help in one day though.

My name is Aisha, and I need help restore my water. It was disconnected today. I have 4 children, all under 16 years of age.
Upon speaking with the utility company, they are asking for $1175.98 to restore today. I don't even have $500 in my account so looking for advice.
Please help me. The company gave me F.I.S.H number to contact for help. I tried calling but no answer.
I would really appreciate your help in this matter. Please, its urgent.
Thank you very much.

Hi,
Not having water for 2 months, and owing ~$2,000, is a lot of money. We do have other resources listed on the site that may help you, but your are in kind of a pickle. People in your household need to work....make money. As far as other details on payment plans for water, find them here. https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... plans.html

No water for 2 months and need help to turn it back on

Post by SEC12 »

Hello,
Our household hasn't had water going on 2 months now.
We defaulted in our payment plan and now the company requires the full amount to turn on the water and restart services. We didn't make the payment for the because we simply didn't have the money.
The head of household lost her son and is fighting for her disability as she can not walk properly and has several other health issues.
I struggle with mental health and work less than 20 hours a week.
The other occupant is looking for work but struggles getting around without a reliable vehicle.
We desperately need water. We are currently filling buckets from the neighbors hose to take back home and have been doing it for a couple months now.
The bill is almost $2,000 and we're also behind on rent so all the households income goes towards keeping the rental.
Please guide me through the process of getting this taken care of.

I need my water turned back on. What area does the water fund assistant program cover? I called and asked about my account it is shut off. I asked how much it was and she told me the balance is 367.25 then she asked if I could pay it. I told her I don’t have the $ for it.
I also told her that I am a recipient of SSI my income is really low. So I was hoping to find a community agency that would help with my water bill as i need service for my SSI medical condition. The lady started yelling at me. If you can tell me who can help I would appreciate your message. zip code 77029.

I am a mother of 6 children ages 7, 6, 5, 4, 2, 1- my husband is having a very difficult time keeping a steady income lately and the water company has just turned off my water. My 1 year old is still on formula and I am unable to make her a bottle. We need the water service for medical reasons. I have 3 kids in school and 3 homes with me right now- there is no way to flush the toilet and it’s going to be absolutely 100 times worse when everyone gets home. Please I am desperately in need of help. Live in Pageland; SC 29728 and the name of the water company is Chesterfield County Rural Water Company- my current balance is $166.19 and it’s in my husband’s name....Please can you help me, and my children PLEASE. I am desperate!

Waht does the lease say about whose name the meter is suppose to be in? If the landlords, then you signed the lease. Regardless, there are some assistance programs for water bills in Akron Ohio, and you can find them here. https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... tance.html
A couple hundred dollars does not seem an unreasonable request, as long as you have a plan to pay future bills.

Dallas based agencies usually offer that assistance last...but they may have some funds. Generally they want to keep the service on vs. pay for re connection fees, but you can ask them. Good luck.

Hello,
I’m writing to request assistance. I don’t always have access to a telephone so email is my only way to communicate. I’m a 52 year old unemployed female living in DeKalb County. I have an outstanding water bill and currently my water has been disconnected for over a month. I also have a medical condition, Hidradenitis Suppurativa that causes me to have large oozing cysts. Being able to wash myself is vital because of infection risks. I have been buying water to wash with. I’ve also been catching water from my roof. It’s not easy for me to ask for help but my need is desperate.

Any advice for getting our water back on

Post by Sayers »

We are family of 13 ( 3 of them under 1) living together in a house trying to make ends meet in today’s economy. The men are unable to find steady work in are area. Our problem currently is are water was just shut off and we can't get assistance because it isn't in anyone’s name who lives in the house. The city requires the bill to be in the owners name. The owner is deceased and it is now owned by the bank we guess.
We however don't have 400.00 to restore the water. It is so high because since the bill isn't in our name they never send us one we never know what’s due or when. They just come shut it off. Could you please help us we haven't had water all week. Thank you.

This is incredible! I’m going to lose my home if I can’t get my water turned back on. Everything that I’ve gone through, everything that I’ve done, and I’m still going to lose my home. I went through the ringer to get my mortgage modified so that I could keep my home. The mortgage company approved the modification but now I can’t get the County of Henrico to work with me on the water bill. I’ve tried every avenue the water company gave me but I don’t fit the guidelines for any of those organizations.

My water has been turned off for over a year because it actually took over a year working with the mortgage company to get my modification. The water bill is up to almost $1,800 and continues to rise monthly even with the water turned off because the County has to maintain the lines. I don’t understand how the bill got so high but the County of Henrico just sent me a long and very confusing list of bills and payments that I’ve made in the past couple of years that’s supposed to show me how it got that high. Whatever the case, they refuse to work with me because the water is already off and of course they have to go by their rules and regulations regardless of the situation. I do not fault them.

Social Services will not help me because they don’t think I have enough income to keep my home even if they turn on the water. What they are not considering is that my home is income producing. They don’t count that because it’s not income producing right now. My home has 4 bedrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, 2 car garage, loft, sit’s on a double lot on the corner, with a pear tree and a fig tree. If I had the water on, I could move back into my home, and rent out 2-3 rooms. Right now, I have to live someplace else and pay rent there which should be going towards my mortgage, not rent someplace else. And renting out 2 rooms is well more than enough to pay the expenses at the house. So yes, I would be able to afford the mortgage and expenses in my home if I could get my water turned back on, but that has to be before they start foreclosure procedures.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME! I’m not asking for a hand out, I’m asking for a hand up because I can pay you back with payment arrangements, I just can’t come up with enough lump sum money to get my water turned back on. And if I wait too long, then I’d have to come up with another $4,000, I’m guessing with fees, to stop a foreclosure. So, if there’s anyone out that that can help me, God Bless You!

And yes, I am a faithful church goer, I love the Lord, but my church cannot help me. I don't even know why I woke up at 4:50AM this morning with it in my head to send this to people on Christmas Eve of all times. But even with this happening to me, I’m still very much in the Christmas spirit because I know God is good and I love celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior. So to you and your family, have a Wonderful, and Blessed Christmas!
