Winter Haven, Florida resources needed please
Hello,
Our family lives in Winter Haven, Florida. We were recently evicted. We packed a bag of clothes and our family of 5, Myself, my husband and 3 kids, (plus 2 dogs) loaded up in our car and headed north. We are not from Florida, so this was a new terrifying experience for us. We took our bill money (the only money we had) as gas. We had no idea where we were going or what we were going to do, as our family is over 1000 miles away. As we were leaving, in panic, I tripped and fell down the stairs and banged up my face. In that fall, several of my front teeth are now loose. We have no insurance or money to go to a dentist. We left behind everything we owned, not knowing if we would ever be able to return. We drove and spent time at a hotel in Georgia, and then Kentucky. We found out from neighbors that our old neighborhood in FL got hit by a tornado. And we went back to Winter Haven to help the neighbors out and stay on the couches, but we need help with all the bills and getting life together here.
We not only used our bill money for food, gas and a place to stay. We missed work for over a week, which means no pay. And we are struggling. We had to come home and empty our well stocked refrigerator and chest freezer due to no power and are behind. Do you know of any resources that could possibly help us to get back on our feet? Thanks so very much for your time.

Hi,
Yes, SSDI and food stamps may take a while to kick in - that is even if you get approved for SSDI as most don't.
But as far as other options, we have a list of Polk County FL food pantries to try.

Hi YasmeenMelissa Bean wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 1:47 pm Hello,
My name is Yasmeen. I reside in Lakeland, FL of Polk county. I am a single mother of 2 daughters currently facing financial hardship since I lost my job back in February. Any assistance or places to call for help or their address to stop by would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to prevent possible eviction and homelessness.
In addition to the resources listed above, Saint Vincent de Paul has a center right in Lakeland Florida. Try them. But the job market in FL is booming, and not working since February is odd to say the least. Companies are begging for workers. Anyhow, here is the Saint Vincent info in Polk County. https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... aul_a.html
