Re: North Carolina Help and Assistance

Post by Armstrong289 »

I moved to NC in April of 2016 after a bitter divorce. I am 51 yrs old & have been an artist professionally most of my life. I came here to try & do right with my daughter & myself. At the time I moved here I was being treated for a few serious health and mental health issues. I have been off meds & treatment over a year now and although I am still working as I can, I am currently homeless & destitute. I had some crazy idea that if I ignored my health problems & worked to help take care of my child, I might help set an example for her.
Now I cannot help either of us. I really believed that if I dropped dead digging a ditch, that she might see my sacrifice for her well-being. I don’t know what to do but my health issues are now just preventing me from being effective to either of us...& lack of mental health meds are making me wonder if she might be better off without me...I don’t want her to remember me as a disabled mentally ill loser. I need help with healthcare, food & housing. Please, if there is any way you can help, I am desperate. Thank you for your time.

Hello, my name is Mercedez. I am a nurse that just moved to North Carolina in August. I moved up here with my two boys to have a fresh new start in NC from New York. Well since we moved down here, I have had some tragic things happen. My arranged job prior to moving pushed its start date back a month so I won't start till 120/25.
The apartment we were supposed to move into wasn't ready, forcing me to stay in hotels and pay for storage with no help from my landlord. Then our storage unit got infested with roaches and I had to throw away 90% of our stuff, our life! I reached out to the company because I purchased insurance only to find out they only pay out a max of $250 for vermin based of their policy. So, I had to start completely fresh!
I don't have much money to start this job on top of now trying to find day care for my youngest son who is 3 years old. I pray to God every day I didn't make a terrible decision to come here! I put all my eggs in one basket and now without a job I'm sinking fast! My car payment is behind, and my rent is currently on 10-day notice to evict. I'm crying out for help after searching for assistance in my area online and finding this website! I am not sure if you can help or even point me in the right direction! I have worked so hard during this time to move to North Carolina with my boys and I love it here! I know once I start my job (God willing) I shouldn't have any problems staying afloat! But right now, I'm drowning in hopes of some help or even just a prayer! Thank you for your time and I hope you can shed some light in my direction. Having only two friends and no family out here is already hard enough! Thank you for your time. Have a blessed day!

Hi Keturah
We have many programs listed for all of NC, including in your area of Fayetteville. It is best to use our main NC link which is below. Then you will find state and local resources from there, and find the list of NC assistance programs.

y name is Keturah and I live in Fayetteville North Carolina. I'm a single mother to two girls and I have been out of work since March and I need help. I do not have any family here and I don't have any kind of financial support from my girl's dad. Please help me and my kids. I am behind in rent, behind on my lights and they will be disconnected this coming Friday, and I was offered a job to start work next week but my car is not reliable because I need to have some maintenance worked on it. If you could give me any kind of information to help me in Fayetteville or nearby in NC as to who or where I could go to get some help I would greatly appreciate it and thank you.

We are not exactly sure what utility company you use in Fayetteville NC, so you can find our general list of all companies. Both emergency and long term electric assistance is offered. And we are far from stellar but just try to do what something (even if not enough) to try to help people. But look here for emergency energy bill help in NC.

Hi there,
Thank you for being stellar humans and helping those in need. I hate to ask for assistance but I'm in a bind. I currently live in Fayetteville NC at the . My rent is 795 a month. I'm a week late already. They gave me until the 15th and sent me an eviction notice; which would be void if I pay in full. I went to the outreach center but they didn't have the funds. I have one job and will have a second job as soon as I get my license renewed, the second job is with a maintenance man in NC, that comes with a rental discount. I currently work with Advantage Solutions on the weekends, and my bi weekly checks would cover rent, but unfortunately I won't get a check until probably the 20th, and then another around the 31st. I'll happily pay whatever I borrow back, or donate back to any organization that helps. I just need to make it through this month and then we will be fine. Thank you for any information you can provide, I sincerely appreciate it.
I'm also trying to get my license reinstated or get a restricted license so that I can be employed at the second job I mentioned here in Fayetteville NC. They said they'd hire me if I got that sorted out. Then we'd be just find and would have excess funds that we would gladly donate or reimburse back.
I just don't know what else to do.
Thank you for your time,

Good morning. I really need to talk to someone bout what’s really going on.  The past 3 week been nothing but hell. I live in North Carolina Bessemer city and not I repeat not one resources down here it not any help or assistance.  At all I emailed  someone  this week about my issues then they send me a list of other programs  and tell me I didn't  ready  the last email  they send  me.  I felt like that person was being a smart mouth. I did all the research after reaching and nothing I even went out side of my county trying to get help and assistance in North Carolina and nothing. Half the number or information on here it not helping either number is no longer in service or it keep sending back where I started.  They say emergency when tell them I have been laid off need help with rent lights and water they say no or no funds. I never been through this before being a single mother and can’t get help from my Community or county something not right.  I feel hopeless and helpless and don’t know who or what else to do.

Hello: I am originally from NC and lived there on and off for about 15 years. I am 53 and worked my entire life. I am currently in Miami (don't like and too expensive). I am federally disabled as of June of this year. I am 7 months away from my Medicare kicking in but I applied and received disability the 1st time I applied in Florida. Which I had been told is unheard of. I have a rare immune disease (Boy in Bubble). My doctor said I drew the short straw. The people here -well it's not NC. I Have a Bachelor’s Degree. I raised 5 kids. The youngest is over 18. I would love to spend my last few years back Home. I receive 1884 each month and 16 dollars in food stamp from Federal Government. The large paycheck, retirement and transportation have vanished. I am on oxygen 24/7 but only need it with activity. I also understand I can work 45 hours a month without affecting my benefits. I enjoy working it's just hard when you have what I have. Would there be any assistance I could get in NC HOUSING TRANSPORTATION. I have run companies so I could exchange work for a place a lay my head.

I use to live in Cary, close to Durham. There are resources in the region, and we have information on emergency assistance in Durham. Also look into the disability programs we have listed on the website.

Re: All government programs in North Carolina

Good morning,
I was referred by social worker to government aid, and referred by the Big buddy program and with * crisis at Coastal horizons. I reside in Wilmington NC 28401. I have been residing at this address for 5 years. Our rent is $750 a month. Our only source of income is SSI and child support. My other son gets child support only.
We fell behind because I had to stop working back in February and my son SSI payments got stopped. On the day of his review I passed out and ended at the hospital. I did provide proof and judge changed his decision to an appeal but cancelled payments. After months of tests I found out that I have a brain tumor on the right side of my head.
I still have syncope episodes without warning and asthma attacks just to name a few things. I have applied for my disability but haven't heard anything yet. It's been a struggle for me and my family. I can't drive or move around by myself because I never know when I'm going to pass out.
Recently I fell going down the stairs and broke my foot. We have court on Friday with the landlord. I have been to social service, the help hub and catholic charities. Social service has no government funds and help hub and catholic charities don't assist with rent. I know its short time notice but we got served with papers on Monday. If you can assist me can you please call my landlord all he wants is a specific date. If you can't assist me can you provide me with resources that you might think they will help?
Attach is proof of income, lease and court papers. If you have further questions please email me or call.
Sincerely,
Emma

Hi, I live in Durham North Carolina I'm on disability. I have fell under financial difficulties. I am behind on my bills, need food as well as other support. But a big issues is that I have a car that's in the shop that needs to be fixed all year and a half ago I had a brain aneurysm and a heart attack and my doctor thought it would be more wiser for me to stay very active and that's what I've been doing since I got my car. I found a job to keep active and do things and help people out in the community.
Now my car is in the shop and I have no way to get around to help anyone or go to work I hope you get this message and I really hope that you can help me. If i had a car maybe I could get a part time job while on the disability. Thank you so much for your time, if you have any questions you can reach me.

Greetings!! I am a single mother of three children ages 2 to 8 in Reidsville NC which is in the county of Rockingham County. I currently attend school for my CNA training with hopes on pursing my RN degree. However for the past 6 months me and my children have been homeless and living from resident to resident.
My grandmother whom I carried for past away in 2015 and the home was willed to another relative living me and my children homeless. I am seeking resources or some financial need to help me sustain a livelihood for me and my children. I owe a duke energy bill of three hundred dollars in order to obtain lights and have paid fifty dollars on it. I need help with this bill and a deposit for my first months rent of 400 dollars.
Sir/Maddam, I don't mind doing volunteer work or donating my time to show my appreciation for assistance. I have applied at several income based housing with 6 months to a year waiting list and I have exhausted all resources that I possibly know so I’m just asking for a chance an opportunity to place my children in a home and provide a livelihood for them to grow up in a safe and healthy environment. Please email me back. Thanks for your time.

Re: All government programs in North Carolina

Good afternoon,
I need some assistance with housing, utilities, and transportation costs in Eastern North Carolina. My situation is very, very complicated. I can absolutely guarantee you that you have never heard anything like this before in your life. I promise on my heart that everything I'm saying is absolutely true.
After getting my master's degree in August in New York City, I decided to move back home to York PA where I planned to land a great job.
I put a contract on a home to purchase in June of 2016. I moved to the area in May of 2016 in expectation of my home closing in October or November. When my three month lease was up at the end of November, my home had not closed.
I had to move into another at the beginning of December, which as soon as I moved, my home closed one week later, on December 5th. I moved out of the temporary home into my purchased home in the beginning of January.
My 4 kids and I were only able to sleep there one night as there was so much mildew and mold, at dangerous levels, that was a result of the storms and flooding disaster in October.
I then had to move, spur of the moment, into a fourth home, which was temporary housing that an acquaintance of mine had a friend who let me borrow and paying rent in a rental home she had to move out of.
I have to move out of that home at the end of this month.
My first mortgage payment was due in December of 2016 and I was unable to pay it because I was paying rent to live somewhere else in north Carolina. Currently, I am 2 months behind on my mortgage as I have not even made the first payment. I have spent so much money moving 4X that I am absolutely broke.
I have no family as my disability relates to the abuse that I suffered from my family as a youth. I am a single mother, an educated single mother, of two children that I also raise alone as their father was abusive to me.
I am on disability and my goal was to move here with my Master's Degree, live in my newly purchased home, and gain substantial employment so I no longer have to be on disability.
I have put a hundred dollar deposit on an apartment to move into at the beginning of April. The only apartment that I could get approved for is $1,163 a month. The deposit is one month's rent which I do not have to pay. When I get my disability check and pay the rent to move in granted I am able to get assistance for my security deposit I will have no money left over to cover moving expenses much less any of my bills such as utilities, car payment, gas, and car insurance. All of my utilities are two to three months behind as is my car payment and my car insurance.
I also became very ill in January when I was exposed to the large amount of mildew and mold which I'm allergic to. I was very diligent before I moved here and applied for Medicaid in January of 2017. My application was sitting in pending since then when I call this week to check on it and was told that they no longer have any application on file for me. I have multiple unpaid medical bills from several visits to the ER and numerous doctor’s appointments.
I'm beginning to feel physically better, well enough to start my job hunt, but if I am homeless with no car as it would get repossessed since I have not been able to pay the first payment on that, there is no way I can get a job.
Is there any way you can help me? I am a good person and a good parent. I don't know why all these horrible things are happening to me and I am losing faith in the existence of a loving God. I am abandoning the positive attitude that I have maintained for my entire life as this attitude and the concept of a loving God has not helped me as my life has always been this complicated and difficult.
I thank you in advance for any help or guidance that you can offer me.
Sincerely broken down,
BigBen1

Hi, I have 4 kids. 8, 6, 2 and a newborn. I'm permanently disabled and in need of finding a home or the courts are going to adopt my kids out. I make 805.00 a month and need assistance really bad. I live in North Carolina near Wilmington, on the Brunswick and Columbus county line. Me and my fiancée are currently staying with my father and need to find a home ASAP. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and God bless.

My family and I are in desperate need of help paying our rent this month. It was due on the first, but given till the 13th and don't know if we will have a place to live next month. My husband is disabled. I was working, but due to medical conditions I was unable to keep my employment. Please if you know of any programs for North Carolina (Harnett County). I would greatly appreciate any help available.

To whom it may concern, if anyone cares.
My best friend is a unique honest, caring, compassionate and humble individual I've ever had the privilege of knowing. I'm ex-navy and have seen physical pain and mental pain. My friend here is going through some emotional and physiological trials at the moment (which honestly seem never ending).
He struggles so hard and nothing goes right for me. It seems as if everything is working against him in the last year. He so kind and giving and always thinks about others needs before he thinks about himself. His ex-husband moved him 2000 miles away from home and has since let him go and let him fall hard. And the poor guy still loves him. I've seen the hurt he goes through every single day. He works everyday making less than 40 hours a week and less than generous amount of money. Definitely not enough to pay rent or bills or even go to the hospital. He gave up to really good careers for one person who actually would rather hide all of his family's money from Gary and Leave him with nothing.
He is recently incarcerated ted and charged with a felony for something I believe is not possible for someone like him. I would like to request someone help my friend. He needs serious help paying bills that have defaulted, as well as living in a house with no power or water because he can't afford utilities and rent and food and gas.
I help him as much as I can but I know it's not enough. My friend loaned him $1600 for his rent and I've loaned him about $700 for him to survive. I won't go into any more personal detail about things that recently happened to him. Let's just say he is looking very sad and needs someone to show that he is worth it and that everything will be OK and to smile.
I've seen pictures of him before his divorce he was happy in Wyoming and Colorado. I'm not requesting monetary help but he need furniture, a bed, food, power, water, a lawyer, parts to keep his car running it needs some things or it will leave him stranded (he works 6-7 days a week and has used his car specifically for his job with no complaining and no compensation) and most likely a better job around cars (that's all he talks about is Ferrari and Aston Martin). Please help in Winston Salem, NC.

There is a teacher shortage in North Carolina, so how do you lose your job? You should have a good answer as when applying for rent help in the Greensboro area that question will be asked. While it was great you called around, and now have a new job in a call center, that will help in the application. But we have many other places to try, in addition to the 4 or so you already called. Locate them here. http://www.needhelppayingbills.com/html ... tance.html

Dear Sirs/Ladies,
I would like to convey my family's situation in hopes that maybe your organization will care enough to help. I am an English teacher who lost her job in March. My unemployment did not cover all my bills but we were able to pay them through June. Our landlord petition the court to evict us even though they received our June rent late. My landlord wanted 1500.00 to stay in the apartment.
I asked The salvation army, Greensboro Urban Ministry, Greensboro Coalition and local churches. They each took turns pushing my family to the other one with the response of no money, check with us next month for 6 weeks. One of the organizations( Open door ministry of High Point) didn't even bother to return my call after she was asked to contact us by the Homeless prevention in Raleigh, NC.
Through the help of an old friend I was able to get a job at a call center. We are living in a local hotel for two weeks but it isn't the answer. We need help. I am not an addict or drunk or mentally ill; just a four person family that needs help; after paying taxes or 30 years it would be nice to have some assistance. Can someone truly help us?

We do have information on government and public programs in Forsyth County, but don't limit your search to them. Also look into charity resources too, such as churches, Salvation Army, and more. Keep your options open when seeking financial aid, as there are many options and solutions available besides food stamps, LIHEAP, etc. Locate resources and public aid in Forsyth. http://www.needhelppayingbills.com/html ... istan.html
