There are different places to try in Mecklenburg county for rental assistance. the landlord does not need to work with you if they have a lease, but that being said, it is unfortunate they won't try. Maybe ask for a mediation session as well with a local pro-bono law firm. But as you go down that path, also find the rent assistance programs in Charlotte.

Could not pay this months (July) rent, will receive eviction notice (to go to court) in 2 days, eviction in 2 weeks. Desperate to avoid eviction in Charlotte. I am unemployed now, but will be okay in 2 months (able to pay rent and bills). Family would like to help, but unable to. I have sold everything I have of value that I can sell to raise money temporarily. Is there any help for one month?

I am a single parent of two children. I lost my job at NC Baptist Hospital in January, and have since lost my unemployment. I am applying to every position I see, but am having no luck. For the past two months, I have depended on my 65 year old parents for help.
I am 45 and have always worked. I saw on TV where you may be able to get help when you are in this situation.
I live in Forsyth County North Carolina. I applied for food stamps about 3 months ago, but I haven't received any thing yet. I have no money coming in at all.
I would appreciate any information you have to offer.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I need help so bad I had to move from my recent apartment because my daughter has environmental allergies. He can no longer live with and I came up with the deposit for my new place but I need help with my first months rent. I contacted crisis assistance ministry in Charlotte North Carolina where I reside and they said that no one gets help with first months rent. Where can I go and get the help before I be homeless and lose my deposit?

I'm going to have a procedure done on my back and will be laid up for 6 weeks. Already applied for SSI with the state of North Carolina but that can take up to 8 months. There's no guarantee that this procedure will work, and I already have 5 herniated disks. If it does not work I will likely not work again. I am 59 and have spoken with SSI, the law firm they referred me to, DCF for food stamps and vocational rehab. All are willing to help to some extent but its going to take time. Meanwhile I still have to pay rent and car payments. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I recently moved to central North Carolina from eastern part of state due to having to short sale home because of financial hardship. I am single, 57 years and lost all of savings trying to keep home.
I had to leave my job there in August 2013 and move in with my son and his family in NC.
I applied for unemployment benefits was denied because I quit but I had no choice due to losing home.
I have now been approved for an apartment in a Senior Housing Community in Cary, NC.
Rent is 495.00 a month plus I am trying to keep medical insurance which is 345.00 a month.
I need help!!! I am currently trying to find employment. Have never been in this situation before and I feel HELPLESS.
I have applied for food stamps, but said it would take 30 days before I know.
Can you PLEASE supply me with agencies that could help me?
Thank you

Hello,
I need some assistance paying my 1st and security deposit. I am a veteran and I just received a job at the VA clinic in Wilmington North Carolina. I found a place but have no money to pay until I actually start work. I have a start date of the 1st of December. I need to be out of my old apartment by the 27th. Can you please point me to someone who can help me. I am willing to pay any money received back. I am a single mother with 3 children and receive no child support. Please I have tried everywhere.

Why did you move with no job and no funds for rent? That will make your application very difficult to consider as it doesn't show you have a means for financial and self-sufficiency. Anyhow, there are some agencies you can call in North Carolina for rental and housing assistance. There are also some shelters in case you need them in a week or so. Learn about and review the main information on housing and rent assistance in North Carolina.

My landlord rushed me into moving into this apartment him knowing it had rats. He tried to cover the hole so we would not notice. Well the rats have started to scratch and are even coming out. I have 3 children a 1,4,and 8 year old. I told the landlord many times about the problem he failed to take care of the problem. He said my spouse should have fixed the problem. He told me to f myself so i took photos and i have an appointment with North Carolina legal aid tomorrow. Since he wants to try to evict me since i refuse to pay rent to him because of the rats. We did find a place to move but i am short on the deposit. I have 1100 the want 1700 do you of any places that can help me in the Charlotte NC area.

The more info I have the better. What city in NC, who is your utility company? Please post it. Without having that info, here are some resources.
Many North Carolina utility companies offer Operation Roundup Program. It is a program that is funded by and it helps those who are in grave need of assistance. The program provides grants that can be used to pay for many expenses, including rent, clothing, utility bills, food, health care, emergencies, and other humane needs. The maximum grant you can apply for and receive is $2500.
Fayetteville Public Works Commission offers the People Who Care program.
Progress Energy in NC offers the Energy Neighbor Fund which provides electric and heating bill aid.
