Re: Elderly mom needs heating oil

Post by Clansman »

I am inquiring about my elderly 90 year old mother.
She cannot afford to heat her house.
She got a propane bill over $1000 and probably will not eat. She needs heating oil or more propane to prepare for the cold weather several months away.
I am looking into government services for her and will visit her from Michigan to try to find help for her.
Is there anything you can do or resource you can send me to?

Since you need free heating oil, is for this year or next? Either way, there may be some non-profits and government benefit programs. Of course they are limited in what is given to heat your home, but look into them here at free heating oil services. https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... _fuel.html

To Whom it may concern:
I am writing on behalf of my husband, Craig, as me and him need heating oil. Craig was diagnosed with Laryngeal/Epiglottis throat Cancer in August 2021. Craig has had 4 surgeries in that short time, which is costly and doesn't allow us money for heating oil. Craig is utilizing treatment services at the Cancer Center in Philadelphia.
As you know, with so many office visits, surgeries & travel (Lancaster PA to Philadelphia PA every 2 months) our SSA/SSD finances are being exhausted monthly. With bills now starting to accumulate, we find ourselves unable to afford Heating Oil for the up coming winter months.
We have already been denied LIHEAP. LIHEAP stated our income falls outside the brackets of their allowable 2 person allotments. We have also been denied Public Assistance. We have found a Throat Cancer organization that has recently started to pay the Oncologist Office Visits & Surgery co-pays (they only help with medical bills). Please advise me on whether your organization would be willing to help us obtain Heating Oil for this winter season. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

I live in Irvington Alabama and I am an elderly mom with many grand kids. I have been on medical leave for 11 weeks due to a hernia. Alabama power has disconnected my power. I live in a mobile home and need heating oil. I have called all the agencies 211 has given me. Mobile Community Action had a recording wanting you to call on 06/28. I called them on 06/28 at 8:02 AM. The recording stated to call back on 07/26 for August appointments. I cannot do anything to get the heating oil due to hernia. Walking from my door to my vehicle makes the hernia try to come out of the tear that surgeon will repair. The Hospital keeps cancelling the surgery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am writing to ask if you know who someone could contact for help in paying their home heating bill for fuel. Her name is Suzy and she is the mother of 2 of my grandchildren. My son and her never married and she is raising their 2 daughters by herself. My son does not in any way help her. He has not given her a penny in over 2-3 years. She works at a nursing home and does the best she can but her heating bills are killing her. Her rent alone is $500.00 and the last heat bill she received was something like $699.00!!! That is for just 1 month! She cannot afford to pay this. Do not understand why the heat bills run this high in her house because it is just a very small 2 bedroom rental house. She said she was told that the furnace is very old. She does not receive any help at all from anywhere. Her youngest daughter who is 5 years old is disabled and she is fighting for her disability but it has been something like 2 years now and it still hasn't been approved:( I help her all I can but I myself cannot afford a $699.00 heating bill as mine alone is $350.00 and we live on my husband’s disability. I cannot find an actual number for her to call to try to find some type of help with these home heating fuel bills. Her electric company will not allow her to make any type of partial payment either. I know because I talked to them last month when they turned her electricity off. They were actually very rude and told me that I had 5 minutes to pay her bill in full or it would then go up even higher due to a fee that they were going to charge me. When I tried to ask them about the heating fuel bills they said, "you now have 3 minutes!" If you could please refer me to someone that she could possibly contact about this matter I would really appreciate it. She lives in Princeton, Kentucky. Thank you,

Re: Heating oil tank is empty

Post by Lost job to trade »

Hello there,
I have two children.
We just moved into this house this week there's no heating oil in the tank and the landlord will not put any oil in the tank he says it's my responsibility. Which would be fine if I had the money, but I just paid the money to move in and I just don't have enough, and we've been freezing cold.
I'm looking online I do not know who to call; can you please help us with heating oil?
We live in South Yarmouth Massachusetts 02664. I believe is a zip code
Thank you,

There is not just state assistance but also non-profits, charities, and programs from utility companies. Find them all here in the Elizabeth City region. Maybe they can cover your heating bills and needs too.

Sell one of the homes than if you have 2 rental. Why are you asking for financial aid if you are an investor/owner, etc. Others are much more in need. But heck, you can apply, and try the free heating oil program from Citgo. http://www.needhelppayingbills.com/html ... _fuel.html

Sometimes LIHEAP crisis aid can provide more heating oil. Not it does not cover propane, but for those northeastern states that need fuel oil, use boilers, etc. then maybe they can provide this. It is generally a small grant given to the qualified low income household. So apply for assistance and see what they say. Details are here on the Crisis LIHEAP program.

I am 85 years old living on a very limited monthly social security check. My oil heating bill is too high for me to pay money on and I have other home repair and financial obligations I'm finding hard to meet. I need to speak to someone about financial aid and assistance. I have been an Elizabeth City, NC resident all of my life. Please advise me on state assistance that is available to me. Respectfully,

Hi, We are having trouble paying to get more fuel oil for our home. That is what we heat with. We had just put 200 in on the 11th and that gave us 70 gallons. We tried to get help from DHS but they denied us. The only Income we get is my husband's and he is on SS. Do you know what we can do for fuel? Please get back with me. God bless you.

Oven repairs are rare. Try buying a new one at a thrift store. But there may be places that offer heating bill help in Cleveland. So your 61 year old brother can apply to them, and then turn to a neighbor to fix the oven or buy a gently used one at a Family Store.

I am 21 years old and I live with my disabled mother. I am almost 7 months pregnant and we have run out of oil. We do not have the money to get any right now and I am in need of help as soon as possible. If anyone can tell me where I can contact to get emergency heating oil delivery I would greatly appreciate it. I've applied for LIHEAP and have not gotten a response from them out & we haven't had oil in a few days. The furnace also heats up our water so we don't even have hot water. Please help as soon as possible.

Why is your oil bill $400 per month? That is outrageous. How high do you keep the temperature in your home? No one should be spending that type of money in West Virginia. Turn down the thermostat and use blankets. Especially if you are a single mom you need to budget much better. Anyhow, read more heating assistance in West Virginia.

You can try a senior center or agency on aging office for information on programs for seniors with Alzheimer. But LIHEAP is one option, and there are many others. That is great of you to help your 89 year old mom as well. But find programs by state, and read more LIHEAP heating bill grants.

Hello,
I live in Philadelphia. I became disabled in January, 2014. I had no money to pay my gas bill. I did qualify from a LIHEAP grant, which paid some of the balance. I have not had gas for almost 6 months.
I have qualified for Long Term Disability Insurance from a policy I bought a few years back. I have applied for SSDI and Medicaid as well.
I called the gas company to see how much it will take to turn my gas back on so I can get some heat. Right now my bank account is 147.00 in the hole. I get food stamps every month 200.00 if it wasn't for that I would not eat. My land lord has been very understanding, lucky me, regarding the rent. I would send what I could every few weeks. Right now I am 2 months in the hole with that.
Is there any more help I can get?
I am 55 years old, 100 percent disabled, I live alone.
Thank you so much for what you do for others.

Elderly mom needs heating oil

Post by Betty »

Hi,
I just moved into a place in Hagerstown, MD. She is on Social Security and I'm on disability and SSI that is the money
help we receive, we also are getting help with rent by way of Section 8 housing.
I called a oil company to get heating oil into the house before winter to especially keep
my elderly mom warm, and their budget was $198.00 a month that is way more then we can
pay. My mom gets $1030.00 and I get $878.00 a month. So we after paying other things are
not able to pay that price.
I was looking on the website but there are so many places to get help I have no idea where
to start is there anyway you can point me in the right direction so I can help with getting oil into
the home.
I appreciate your help in this matter
Thank you.

Sir, I am a 65 year old man receiving social security in the amount of 461.00 that makes it impossible to sustain the winter heating season in Northern New York State. I heat my home primarily with wood that is expensive and extremely labor intensive.

I have 2 pieces of rental property one free and clear and the other mortgaged. I also have a significant mortgage on my home. To say the least I struggle. I am currently behind in my property taxes and need assistance in paying for heating propane in my commercial building. This property has one rental tenant that does not come close to covering expense on the property. I can not afford fire insurance or proper liability coverage on this property.

Last year I struggled to replace the aged out boiler thinking that my cost would be decreased and they have not. It cost nearly 5000.00 last year and I just cannot pay that this year and have already spent 1500.00. Please tell me where to go to get some relief from the exorbitant cost of propane heating gas. Very troubled,

Hello,

I am contacting your agency in hope that you will be able to provide me with assistance in heating my home this winter. I am a single African American mother with two young men in college whom I am assisting with college expenses.

The heating resource for my home is Propane Gas provided by a company name Couch Oil here in Durham NC. My heating expense during the year usually cost anywhere from $950 - $1150. Today I am totally out of gas and I am told by Couch Oil I will have to pay a $65.00 charge for them to check the pressure.

Unfortunately, at this time I just do not have the money to pay for this service that my household need so badly. With all of the severe cold weather we are having, if I don’t make a purchase soon my hot water tank will shutdown. That would be disastrous for the home.

I would really appreciate any assistance your organization can provide for me and my family at this time.

Thank you in advance,

Have you tried LIHEAP in Indiana yet? Can't tell from your email below. There is a crisis component in which many people use to get heating fuel, and the crisis portion of it provides the aid very quickly. We are surprised the Trustee did not recommend that for you either, as they will usually require it. Anyhow, find more details on Indiana Energy Assistance EAP program.
