Re: No luck from churches

Post by Vodka »

Hi, I am trying to find help with paying my rent this month from a church, due to a hurricane and my other half has been out of work (fishermen). I work but what I make is not enough to cover rent & keep electric gas and food on the table plus make sure my son has.
I'm not sure what local charity's or churches help. St. Frances on Long beach island helped me with my electric this month due to I just paid September rent on the 22. Now October rent is due today. Our landlord always has an eviction notice made out after the 5th. I’m so embarrassed to ask for help but, I just need help with rent this month. Our rent is 1600 a month which was fine when he was working. The good thing is he goes back to work March open season. So please can I get numbers or address to local charities or churches that may help are family. I live in NJ Ocean County. Manahawkin Is the town. Thank you.

While a church may be able to help with one or maybe two of those needs, we doubt all of them. Maybe they will have a few dollars for rent, or since you are a DV victim maybe they can put you into a shelter. But if you have 5 or so kids (including your nieces which is great of you), that may be challenging. But you can try to find a church that helps with rent, but try a local one near you. As their services are regionalized.

No luck from churches

Post by Dexia »

Hello, I have made several calls to different agencies and churches and I haven't had any luck. I moved out in May of this year from a domestic violence marriage and I have 2 biological children of my own and have custody of my triplet nieces and their younger sister due to the passing of their young mother.
I have been struggling with rent, maintaining my minivan that is barely working, keeping up on bills, gas money to get to my appointments and getting my children to school and their appointments. I get no help from my nieces fathers or my soon to be ex-husband. I would really appreciate more information from the church on getting emergency assistance for Rent because I received a 3 day notice to leave and food and help with bills please.

So the Iris Motel is run by a church? Is that what you mean? Anyway, we are not a church. We have information on them, as well as the shelters, financial aid, and other services they offer. As far as the furniture, there may be a thrift store available. But try a church for help, as they may offer the support you need.

I don't know what else I can do here. I have been live here for 18 months and it hasn't been pleasant. I will be moving as soon as I get the electric on.
I have never asked for help before I have always tried to do everything my self so this is very hard for me. If your church can help me I would be very grateful. I don't have furniture to even go into the apartment so I will be sleeping on the floor. I do have my 2 cats which keep me company. I have nerve damage and I am in a lot of pain through the day. I don't complain because I am grateful to even be alive. I moved here from Virginia and I don't have any family only my 18 year old daughter.

Churches may have some of what you need. Maybe a volunteer can drive you to the doctor, or they may have small dollars amounts of financial aid for utility bills and more. But as far as that long list of needs, maybe they can help with other things. As churches often give priority to widows and people with an illness, such as cancer. So try these resources to get help with electric bills from churches.

I am on disability due to cancer. I am unable to speak. My husband passed away March of this year and had no insurance. I am trying to catch up on bills, I will be moving to a cheaper apartment next month because I can't pay the bills at current apartment.
I am trying to keep up with bills and pay gas money to the person I have giving me rides to my Doctor appointments, to grocery store, to pharmacy and physical therapy after my knee surgery. I just need help paying my Alliant energy bill, that is $75.00 and my water bill that is 117.00.
If I can just have help catching up and getting them paid then I should be OK after that because I'm moving into a cheaper apartment. I live in Olin Iowa which is Jones County. My rent is 375.00 plus utilities and my only income is disability. I need help from the church before I move in order to have water and electric for apartment I will be moving into.

I have been in a financial bind this month. Do to lack of hours and work. I have found a job that will be full time and forty hours a week. A lot better then the one I have. Just waiting for my drug screen to come back sometime this week.

But in the meantime me and my family are on our last day of our three day or vacation. Then it gets sent to a lawyer. Me and my fiancé have called every agency, organizations, an over fifty churches in or state. Some will pledge some donation. But I have no financials to help towards my rent this month. I have never been in this situation before. Any help or information will be greatly appreciated.

Need to get out of this church program and live on my own

Post by Withoutyou »

I had a couple questions. I recently got out of the military in June unfortunately I got a OTH discharge for a stupid mistake I made. At the time I was in my second enlistment and served 6 an a half years. After getting out I've a hard time adjusting and paying my bills due to a big income change. At the time I'm working two jobs and still having trouble supporting my self and am in danger of being homeless. I'm living at a Catholic Charity church program because I was in a huge depression stage and there helping get back on track.. They are providing me with a place to stay that I've been paying rent but am falling behind luckily there helping me and allowing me to stay. But I'm getting deeper an deeper in debt with the rent there. I pay as much as I can but it's not enough. I was wondering with a OTH if I would qualify for the housing assistance? Thank you for your time and am looking forward to hearing back from you.

Well, many churches in the Clearwater Florida agency work with Catholic Charities. The main local center is in St. Petersburg, and the information on those resources is below. They may have rent or utility help, but doubtful can help with medical expenses. Maybe they know of some free clinics for you though that can address the ankle. Anyway, the main link to information on them is here. http://www.needhelppayingbills.com/html ... harit.html

I need assistance with Rent. It is due no later than the 5th of June. I was receiving unemployment until the end of April 2012 and I have been looking for jobs while on unemployment and have not received a yes anywhere as of yet. I recently broke my ankle and I am unable to work for a while even if I had a job. Basically I need help with rent ASAP and with utilities and medical bills as well at this point. I have applied for medicaid from the state of Florida social services and I am just waiting to find out if or when I get it. The doctors appts and therapy for my ankle are in NO way cheap. I have contacted several churches in Clearwater Florida and other non-profit and charity organizations to get help with rent for June but unfortunately they do not have funds available. My rent is $599 a month and I currently have $6 in my account. Please please please help me. Thank you for your time.

This is a tough time of year with cold weather coming, and the federal heating programs are in the midst of cutbacks. You can find ways to get help with heating bills in Vermont, and we also have locations of pantries and other government utility programs for you. Don't worry about Christmas until you get ahead on other needs, like food and heating oil. Then, and only then, even consider holiday gifts.

Well, many churches do provide assistance. They may have small amounts of cash to use for electric bills, rent, or medications. But even id they do not have cash, they can usually provide guidance on who does have cash and can provide aid. For example, they can refer people to local government programs, community action agencies, and just be there to listen and guide people to getting help. More on church assistance programs and options for the low income, working poor, and very low income.

Yes, churches are a good place to call for utility help. Other options are also out there in Mississippi too. For example, one of the main energy companies out there, which is Columbus Light & Water, offers the share one assistance program. This can provide emergency financial support and disconnection assistance. Mississippi Power is another big provider, and they offer the low income and customers the Project Share assistance program. The amount of support out there is tremendous. Call your church, local charities, and utility companies.

Churches can't help

Post by Laz »

Hello,
I have called all the churches in my area for assistance with my electric bill, no one seems to have the funds to provide help. I can not come up with the funds by the disconnection date on my own. Please if you know of any assistance programs or other options I have besides churches that maybe able to help, I would greatly appreciate it if you would get back to me. My bill is due before April 24, 2011 or they will disconnect. How is someone suppose to get by without power?

So you tried churches, and they are out? Sounds like you tried charities too. So maybe now want to try energy programs from utility companies. Things like Operation Roundup. Many utility companies offer direct financial assistance and other aid to those who need help. This program focuses on the northeast part of the nation.

Honestly, there is no secret. You just need to call them and ask. If they don't have funds, they can often redirect you and tell you where to go.
