I reside in Newark, NJ. I would appreciate very much any references I could get for help with my utility bill and heating oil tank is empty. I was shut off today after paying $500 in late July 2011 and getting assistance in June 2011 for $450. Also I receive LIHEAP which pays about $100 a month. I cant seem to catch up. I just started a new job days ago after searching for over a year and I'm in school full time. Also I am a single mom with a few children too. Please help. Thank You

She takes care of her 94yr. old disabled grandmother who lives with her, and has a 1-1/2 yr. old son and a 9 yr. old son. She gets public assistance and food stamps and LIHEAP to help with electric bill. Try calling any of these following places in the Wilkes-Barre Luzerne Pennsylvania area. There are numerous Luzerne County assistance programs and resources for heating oil and energy bill help. The Luzerne Salvation Army Salvation Army is one of the leading non-profits to call for help. (570) 824-8741 While they focus on a food pantry, other limited financial assistance may be available. Maybe the best place to call is Commission on Economic Opportunity of Luzerne County, which is the community action agency which offers information, support, data on grant and heating oil programs, and more. On this program, the payment went up over $100.00 from the original $240.00 agreement at the beginning of the year. The county my parents live in is Luzerne County. The only place they can apply for help is LIHEAP - and they may not be eligible for that. My parents are on a fixed low income (under $22,000.00). They have a lot of pharmacy bills (co-pays for medications) and these add up to almost $200.00 a month. Is there any other option for them that you may know of for them
to seek assistance? I would really appreciate any and all assistance you can offer. Right now I am at the end of my rope, and I don't know what else to do. I wish I was
rich and that I could pay their bills. I maintain my own apartment, and that is difficult enough.

So Cal Gas offers grants and financial assistance programs for energy bills. Many are also for senior citizens as well, which sounds like should cover your mom and her age group. Find a listing of California and So Cal Gas assistance. For example there is the CARE program, they provide free weatherization to elders, and there is always the California Low-Income Energy Efficiency (LIEE) Program, which is another energy conservation programs for qualified people.

You sound like you are a perfect candidate to look into a heating oil buying network. They are basically like buying clubs (think Costco or Sams) in which hundreds or thousands of people pool their buying power in order to buy oil and fuel, and many of the companies may be non-profits as well. The total amount of savings can be substantial, and can amount to dozens of dollars per year, or more with the high price of oil. Most clubs charge a minimal fee to join, but even after paying that people save tons of money. Read more on heating oil buying clubs and networks.

oil company wants us to pay 900.00 hundred dollars all at once we can;t, I'm disabled and I'm bed bound for several month now and been under doctors care, and needing more extended medical care, and that means more medical bills coming in, and there is know way we can afford to pay all this money at one time, my husband and I our at the level where we can't get help with these bills and debts, and we could of years ago and didn't know it, so we did with out before, and now when we finally found out about some programs we can't get them,
so were left out again, its not fair, I have been disabled for a while and never used any of the programs and now I need the help for some heating bills or we can't get no more oil,

but I do want to change to another oil company after this, because they have been ripping off alot of people, and they were on TV allot of times for different things about over charging, but what can I do, But pay the bill and get a better oil company,

Did you look into the federal government funded Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program? It can help former military members, and is in partnership with the HUD’s Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section . So it is for low income, can provide emergency rental assistance and other housing aid to the low income, needy, and former veterans. Good news to know you have interviews upcoming. Have you heard about the Citgo free heating oil program? People may qualify for some heating oil. It is run by Citgo and Citizens Energy. Of course the oil is not unlimited, but people can qualify for a little help. More information on the program can be found here, as well as phone numbers to call.

Looks like you have registered from New Jersey area, and Newark. So try these places. The main non-profit and community action agency in your area is United Community Corporation (UCC). (973) 642-0181. They may have emergency heating aid, and possibly oil, or let you know where to go to for it.
Another place to call for help is Salvation Army of Essex County, and their phone number is 908-851-9300. You need to get calling, as some places are not taking new people, but need to be persistent.

Here are programs for the Fitchburg MA and Worcester County MA area. Some may have some heating bill aid and fuel oil. Try places like the Catholic Charities at 508-798-0191. Always try the Citgo Oil Heat program. Another non-profit to try is the Worcester Community Action Council, Inc. The winter has been brutal in Pennsylvania, and many need free fuel or heating bill help. A listing of programs and non-profit agencies to try to call for help include the following. Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. (CAADC). Phone (610-891-5101) They may be the number one place to call. They offer LIHEAP, free fuel, heating oil, and much more to low income, unemployed, and others.
Another place to try may be The Salvation Army of Chester, and that phone number is (610) 874-0423.
They can usually provide a little short term help for people to get on their feet.

I am sorry to hear that about your grandparents and family. Sounds like you need much assistance, and being 18 there is help out there for you. A couple options include heating oil buying networks. Also, you should talk to an attorney about your family taking that loan out on the house. May be illegal. Many attorneys offer free legal aid to people in situations like yours.
