I am senior and need new HVAC
Hello,
I am a senior in need of a new HVAC system. I have a very low income and can’t really afford to pay back a loan. I am looking for a grant. I am 56 years old, disabled, and a senior. My health is very poor, and I must stay warm always with my physician’s orders. Can you please help me find some assistance? I need the help and the heat very soon.

Hi,
Yeah, summers get getting hotter and hotter, including in Indiana. So to clarify, did you try community action in Indianapolis? There info is here.
https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... er_in.html
Also the LIHEAP program in Indiana is known as EAP. So that is the one you want to apply too and info is here. https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... ance_.html

Can u please give me somewhere to turn? It is so hot in our home we can't breathe.
Any suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated.

Re: My only money from SSDI and can't afford AC fix
I was sent your info by Habitat for humanity because they are not able to do air conditioner repairs.
We have a central air unit that the outside unit fan has quit working. It is so hot in our home and we both have asthma and are only money is from SSDI. Do you have any resources to help with the repair of our unit? Help with utilities?

Re: My only money from SSDI and can't afford AC fix
Hi Deborah and others,
While of course AC programs are not common (much less to repair one), there may be some options. As some states allow LIHEAP (or your state's version) to provide grants to fix an AC or they give out a free unit, and people with a disability including on SSDI often get prioirty. But they are state specific, so vary. Also people on SSDI can try an Aging center for air conditioner repair programs. Find more on all that info on fixing an A/C https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... oners.html

Re: HVAC unit needs repairs
My name is Katelyn. Me and my fiance and 4 month old daughter are living with family at the moment but it isn't so safe here for her. We are in a bad situation and looking for help to get a deposit on a house for us. There in no AC here as it broke and only a window unit that barely works unless the government will help us fix the AC and furnace. The home really isn't all that livable for her with the HVAC broken. We have been trying to get out of here because there is also no lease on the house and the owner could also kick us out at any time and we would have no where to go. If you could please reach out and help us on where to live or how to repair the HVAC in this old home. We appreciate everything you are doing.

Re: USDA grant for HVAC
Good Afternoon!
My name is Kathleen. I am a 54 year old, disabled woman who need a grant for HVAC and I think the USDA grant will not work. My only source of income is SSDI.
I was told by the home inspector, when I purchased my house about four months ago, that my deck on the back of the house is in bad condition and will need to be replaced- the sooner the better. The wood of the deck is deteriorating, and the deck’s wooden steps are not safe.
I do not qualify for a USDA rural development grant because I am too young. I have to be at least 62 years of age to qualify for that.
Can you assist me with getting the deck replaced? Or at least connect me with a program/agency who can help me? I have tried a lot of agencies to no avail. Any assistance that you can give me for an HVAC would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you for your time and consideration

Re: HVAC unit needs repairs
The LIHEAP program in Idaho may help you fix your HVAC, if you meet income and other criteria. And of course provided there is money still available from the government. That being said, look here for Idaho LIHEAP phone number.

Re: HVAC unit needs repairs
Good day, My name is James and I live with my fiancee Anna in Park Central in Mountain Home, ID 83647. The HVAC unit we have needs to be fixed. We live in a double wide manufactured home in a trailer park. Recently, we had a HVAC company come out and check our furnace and were told that the whole system needed to be replaced or major repairs done. Unfortunately, we could not qualify for financing and are in a jam. I am 62 yrs old and disabled. My fiancee takes care of me and her 25 yr old autistic son, and works at Intermountain Hospital in Boise. As well, she is planning on entering nursing school this upcoming year. I was hoping that you could direct me to someone who could help with financing this project. I sincerely appreciate your time and assistance with my request.

The USDA does have some housing programs, including for rent, home buying, repairs and more. Maybe they can help you. Look here for USDA housing programs.

Re: USDA grant for HVAC
To whom it may concern,
My name is Rebecca, I am moving into a mobile home at Gulfport, MS that is part of a USDA program. I have filled out the LIHEAP application form from several sites and have left messages with one number and have called several numbers that no longer in service and have not been unable to reach anyone to get a grant for my HVAC repairs. I need help paying the 300 dollar deposit if possible and assistance with monthly electric bills and HVAC unit from the USDA.
I receive SNAP , I am a single mother of twins. I have health conditions that limit my working ability, so I am on a fixed income. I have tried to get some response via inline, and over the phone. Some of the places I have already tried are listed below.

Re: My only money from SSDI and can't afford AC fix
Recently my home air conditioner went out the outside unit. It is no longer repairable and won’t hold freon anymore, and I only live on SSI and need to fix the air conditioner or replace it.
I have been told by multiple companies it needs to be replaced as it will cost too much money to be fixed. I’m on a fixed income from social security. My daughter and my two grandchildren also live with me. My daughter is disabled and on a fixed income with social security disability. Both of our credits went bad when I had to help her whenever he disability took three years to get awarded.
So we have no means of getting anything financed for the air conditioner on my SSI income. and it can't be fixed without lots of money. We currently have three window units in all three bedrooms and are limiting ourselves to staying in the bedroom because of the size of the home they can’t cool the entire home. My daughters room stays warm because it’s larger even with the windows unit. My grandson has asthma and has been having problems with his asthma and has been getting sick a lot more since the air conditioner went out. We could make affordable payments towards a system but we can’t find any financing. My daughter recently had her car repossessed after her ex husband quit paying child support and he says he would just rather sign his rights away. So that put her in a position of not being able to afford her car payments anymore. This has in turn with the air conditioner being out our fruits keep spoiling because it’s so hot in the house the fridge isn’t working right it keeps defrosting Etc.
I’ve contacted all the local places I could find and couldn’t find any assistance for a new AC for someone on SSI. Do you have any ideas? Thanks so much I’m at a lost . Especially since we live as far south as you can go in Alabama right next to Florida and the temperatures can get unbearable!!
Thanks
Deborah

Re: My only money from SSDI and can't afford AC fix
We can direct you to resources, such as sometimes charities or non-profits (or even LIHEAP) will help to pay for an AC replacement. LIHEAP is a government grant program. Or maybe try a thrift store or Salvation Army center. The point being, there are AC programs out there for lower income households as well as people on disability. Learn more on low income AC replacement.

I had to hang curtains between the kitchen and living room to shorten square footage. I think if I was renting, they'd throw me in jail because I didn't have a working HVAC, if I let my dogs die of heat stroke or freeze they'd take them away, fine me and maybe throw me in jail if I didn't have a working HVAC, but who gives a I have heat stroke or freeze to death besides my dogs? The state would just get my house for the taxes, right? Is it a scam? I spent the last 3 months trying to qualify for a medical card or food, no one would help, always needed to bring more information back before some date. Denied a SSDI boost or grant for AC unit because of some stupid reasons. Oh, didn't qualify for food by $38. Really right?! So does anyone in Bowling Green or the State of Kentucky in the United States of American for a Disabled Psychiatric Registered Nurse know how I can replace an all-in-one 2 ton gas/heat electric/air heat pump if I have little money?
Just asking for assistance thanks.

Re: USDA grant for HVAC
I was just wondering if you all at the USDA helped with paying bills & if so I need help with my electric bill as well as a grant for HVAC fixes. They shut my electric off June 18th because we were unable to make a payment. I work full time & do construction but when it rains or the equipment goes down they send us home & we only get paid for the hours were there. They want a payment of $ 333.73 to even turn it back on so a grant for the electric bill and HVAC fixe would be great.
My wife is 38 weeks pregnant with our 4th child & is being induced next week & we have 3 small kids at home aging from 2 years old to 6 years old to an 8 year old with special needs & a medicine to be kept cold but with no electric it is hard to do anything & it's hot in our house. I was just wondering if you all helped with this kind of thing. If so please call me and ask for Justin. Thank you in advance.

Re: HVAC unit needs repairs
If your income is $3200 per month, that is pretty good. But as noted, not enough to pay for HVAC repairs. But you need to prepare for the winter as it will be cold too. Maybe find free money for HVAC repairs.

I recently had to put on a new roof per my home owner’s insurance and install new water heater which broke and received help from my family which they cannot do again since those were costly. Any help would be appreciated for repairing the HVAC unit. Thank you,

USDA grant for HVAC
In February my HVAC system died. I used a home line of credit to replace it in February. In February I also applied to USDA for a grant for replacement. Didn't hear anything until August 2. Got a phone call asking me for a few updated documents which I sent immediately and was told I was approved for the grant. Late August I received another phone call telling me I would not be getting the grant because the work had already been done. Confusing since I had to have it done and couldn't wait to get it done. I also needed the system throughout the summer. There was no way I could wait 6 months for the USDA HVAC grant.
Do you know any agencies that I might apply for reimbursement of the cost of the system? I'm 68, live alone on my SS income. I would very much appreciate any advice. I don't have the income to repay this credit line. Thank you.

Re: HVAC unit needs repairs
yes, it can be challenging to get a home or HVAC system fixed. But there are grants and assistance programs out there. Try this one for free home repairs and updates. It is also for emergencies and is free for low income families.

Re: HVAC unit needs repairs
Our HVAC system has been down for over a week and three experts told us it cannot be fixed; it must be replaced. We do not qualify for financing, so we are doing without A/C. Since our home has a combined/matched heating and a/c system, the lowest quote we had for replacement was $5,200. I am a teacher and my husband has a small family business that is not doing so well, so we are just trying to make it each paycheck. The problem is that it will soon be cold and our heating system needs replaced, too.
We make too much to qualify for the help from our electric company, but have applied with our fingers crossed. We have extreme student loan debt and business debts that put a major strain on our family finances: over $600 a month. I keep praying that God will show us a way to pay for our HVAC system to be replaced and that we will be able to pay the additional $680 per month for childcare starting on Monday, now that my summer is over and I have to start teaching again. Please advise me if there is anything that can be done. I'm searching websites over and over and wonder if we make too much to qualify for anything, but we still have extreme financial difficulties, despite my steady job. Thank you for reading.
