need help paying electric bill in Florida

Post by Kenmac »

I live in Holiday Florida. I am a single mother of 2 wonderful girls ages 7 and 21months. I have been struggling since my Husbands murder 5-5-07. And my youngest Daughters father was deported 6months ago. I was working for a marketing company until I had 2 surgeries on my right hand. I am well now but finding work is complicated. I have been calling several places to seek help for my rent/utilities for a long time now and all I keep hearing is the same thing over and over (no funds) My elactric was cut off on 9-28-10. I PLEASE NEED HELP!!!! MY FAMILY CANT AFFORS TO HELP US OR THEY WOULD HAVE . CAN YOU PLEASE CALL ME BACK EITHER WAY.I have left messages all over town and I get no response. It is not fair that my next door neighbor recieved funds from the same place I was told NO FUNDS AVAILABLE. We both called back to back, and some how she got help and I didn't. I live on social security and that doesn't pay much.I just need to catch up. If you can help me and my children I would be VERY GREATFUL. Thankyou and God Bless

Pacific Gas & Electric offers several assistance programs, including CARE program, which will, through the California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) utility bill program, provide qualified and eligible customers receive a 20 percent discount on electric and natural home gas bills. Also ask them about the Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA), which helps people who do not qualify for CARE. Call them at 1-800-743-5000

Can you help me by tomorrow?? I have never asked for anything like this before, but I am pretty desperate at this point, while I look for work.

Thanks you so much.

What state or utility company? I need that info. However, in general, most utility companies will not turn off your power if someone is on a medical condition. Call them and ask them this question.

I located this website and would like to know if you can provide assistance or if you have any info on who we may be able to contact for assistance. I have a brother who is currently going through chemo for lung and liver cancer and also suffers from asthma and emphysema. He is on disability and currently earns about $1,100/month. His electric has been discontinued due to non-payment of his bill. Is there any assistance available in this situation? If so what information do we need to provide to receive the assistance?

Thank you for your consideration.

Thank you again for any assistance you can give.

Alliant Energy in Iowa offers the Hometown Care Energy Fund. this utility program helps numerous recipients, including those who are older citizens on fixed incomes, families struggling with a job loss or medical problems. It can even provide funds and electric bill help for eligible people and families who are still trying to pay off last winter's high heating bills. Funds from the assistance program are administered by regional community action programs. Call the utility at 1-800-ALLIANT and ask how and where to apply at.
Also, here is much more info on different programs for Linn County and Cedar Rapids. Including where to get help with energy bills and other expenses.

Re: Please help with electric bill Oklahoma

Post by Admin - Jon McNamara »

For the lady in Oklahoma, try these options for electric bill help. There is a resource at the main site with many other options too.

Oklahoma Natural Gas utility company runs the Share the Warmth. Emergency cash assistance funds may be used to help pay electric bills as well as heating, propane, and other fuel types if it is the main source of energy used to heat the home. Apply at the nearest Salvation Army location that may be in your area. Or dial 1-800-664-5463 to learn more or find an agency.

Oklahoma Gas & Electric offers the Lend-A-Hand, which is really the same as the one from Oklahoma Natural Gas that is mentioned above. You can dial 405-840-0735.

Both of these utility companies also offer addition discounts on bills if someone is in the LIHEAP program. They offer up to an additional $10 per month credit on power bills.

There are some programs in Ohio. Try the Winter Reconnect Program. This program allows most households in Ohio that have been disconnected or are threatened with disconnection due to non-payment of a utility bill to have service restored during the winter months by paying either the total amount they owe or $175, whichever is less, plus a reconnection fee of no more than $20. Consumers can use the winter reconnect program through April 15. There is no income eligibility requirement for the winter reconnect program. Income-eligible households can use Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program (E-HEAP) funds for the $175 payment. Consumers can apply for the winter reconnect program in person at a local community action agency or by calling their utility company.

Contact your local community action agency in Ohio and ask about this program. Or others for that matter.

Also, try HeatShare. Designed to assist those in need with heating bills during the winter season. Ask your utility company about it.

What state? Try your states LIHEAP program. They almost all have a so called crisis component that will provide grants to pay a bill to prevent a shut off. Without knowing your state or county though I can't really post more specific info. Also of course call your utility company. Many will work with you, and also will not shut off service during winter time.

Here are some programs for Austin Texas. Austin Energy has a Low-Income Discount
This program will waive the $6 service charge for lower income customers or with persons living in the household who receive SSI, City of Austin Medical Assistance Program (MAP) or Aged, Blind and Disabled Medicaid. In addition, eligible customers for this Low Discount Program can also receive a 50% reduction on their residential City of Austin Drainage fee.

If this doesn't work, two other options include
PLUS 1, which is an emergency utility bill assistance program that is available to help pay the energy and utility bills of families that facing extraordinary situations such as loss of job or medical emergency or problems.
Last, but not least, the customer Assistance Program is sponsored by the The City of Austin and it helps eligible customers and provides assistance to those who are having difficulty paying their utility bills.
