Hi all,
In addition to the funeral info listed above, also try a local DSS office (or your area's equivalent). Many have information on indigent funeral help or programs for people on SSDI, and find public assistance details here. https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... tance.html

I know my Mom's ashes are not yet mine, because I haven't been able to figure out a way to pay the crematory. I went to DHS, to request emergency burial assistance as my mom was on SSDI. They said that they didn't receive the necessary verifications in the allotted amount of time. Which wasn't true, however the end result is quite the same - no help. I was going to sell her car, but it turns out that I am not actually able to do that. On top of I am unemployed and homeless and completely broke and also disabled on SSDI. The amount of the cremation is $1900 (approximately).

Try one of the indigent burial assistance programs for the poor. Sorry he died at 34. That is way too young. But insurance will generally not pay for funeral costs anyway. But maybe he can still get some form of aid.

There are both government and non-profits that can provide help with funerals. Some counties (we are not sure if Collin does) also offers indigent burial services. This means that the county will pay to bury your loved one. So check with them too.

I need assistance for brother's funeral only. Collin County, Plano, TX. I receive SSI, housing assistance, and food stamps. Thank you for ANY help or advice you can give to help us bury him. I no longer have family, no one to help.
