A single mom - that is a tough move. Any child support? Fairfax County/northern VA is one of, if not the most expensive, county in the US. But there may be some places you try try for financial help, and look here for ways to get help with bills in Fairfax County.

I am writing to formally explain the financial hardship I am currently facing, which has made it extremely difficult to maintain stable and affordable housing for myself and my son.
I relocated from Denver, Colorado to Fairfax County, Virginia in March 2025 as a single mother seeking better work opportunities and a safer environment for my child. Since my arrival, I have been actively employed as a professional driver and have been doing everything I can to provide for my family. Despite working consistently, the high cost of living in Northern Virginia, combined with the burden of rent and daily expenses, has made it hard to keep up with housing costs.
We are currently living in a small, one-bedroom basement unit that we rent. While I’m grateful to have a roof over our heads, the space is cramped and not appropriate for long-term living—especially for my child’s development and well-being. My income is considered low, and I often have to make difficult choices between paying rent, covering transportation expenses, and meeting our daily needs like groceries and healthcare.
I am doing my best to remain employed and financially responsible, but I am respectfully asking for assistance so I can move toward a more stable living situation and prevent future displacement. Your support would make a real and lasting impact on our lives.
