Anyway to bypass HUD wait list in Houston for section 8?

The main NHPB site has more information on local rent assistance programs.

Hi Mariah
Those emergency section 8 vouchers are not common, but we have information pl aces you can try in Houston, and they are noted here. These also help with general rent help too. https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... tance.html

As far as more specific section 8 housing authorities in Texas, both Harris County and elsewhere, look here. https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... texas.html

Anyway to bypass HUD wait list in Houston for section 8?

Post by Angie Grace »

Hi, my name is Mariah. I have three toddlers, and we are currently living on friends-to-friends floors and couches in Houston. Right now, with it being the holidays, a lot of the shelters are full, and only emergency space is available but are on on the section 8 waiting list and wat to get priority.
That means we have to be up and gone by 8AM and can't return back to the facility until 8PM if with nowhere to go with me and my children. Some days are cold, some days raining. We have no transportation, only metro bus to get us where we need to go.
I had a job but recently lost it with all this moving around and not knowing where I'm going to be the next day I'm in school trying to study for my G.E.D and a medical assistant degree but unfortunately, I'm going to have to stop that too.
I’m a single parent and homeless. I'm on the HUD waiting list but feels like I been on that waiting list for ever to the point where me and my kids are literally going to be out on the streets soon. We head you can bypass the section 8 list here in Houston but want to know how?
I have no idea what I can do to get some kind of help to get housing for me and my three children. We get food stamps, and they receive Medicaid.
I'm very grateful for that but just need help getting back on track and a stable home for me and my babies. If there is any way someone can help us or point us in the right direction to get the help, we very much need it please I currently reside in Houston TX 77038 zip code with much appreciation Mariah.
