I overpaid a debt collector now they owe me!

A debt collector owes us $3400.00 for a debt that I paid twice.
The guy my wife talked to said he will be taking care of it.
It's been two months now and nothing.
I am struggling to pay the bills without my money.
Do you know who I can contact to maybe pressure them a little?
Ironic I know I am trying to collect from a debt collector!
They sure didn't back off when they wanted my money.
