I am looking for rent and eviction assistance programs in Gilbert Arizona. My landlord is about to evict me unless I pay $520 that is 2 weeks past due. Thank you

Hi,
That is a long post. We quickly read/skimmed it, but seems you have multiple needs due to getting sick/disabled, office closing, etc. But there are programs there that may help, and look here for emergency help in Gilbert and Maricopa County.

Need lots of help in Gilbert AZ

Post by EnriqueEr »

Hi, I live in Gilbert, AZ. This is a high-end area and although we were able to afford the cost of living from the time we lived here in 2010, we can no longer afford to do so for several reasons. My office closed in 2020 and shortly after I became ill. I applied for disability and had enough funds to survive what I was told a shorter waiting period and met criteria for eligibility/approval so was willing to wait as I took that time to concentrate on my health, which included a variety of tests to determine diagnosis followed by more tests, procedures, med tryouts, etc. to complete a treatment plan.
Unfortunately, instead of an approval, which is now in the Appeals court to reverse ALJ which went against even its own experts, our financial situation has become grim. In addition, my elderly mother could no longer live on her own and we therefore could not reduce our rent, which kept increasing at an alarming rate.
My mother, who was self-sufficient, has been diagnosed with dementia and I have been unable to work due to my illness, her need to not be alone, awaiting decisions for disability, which unlike what I was told is now going on 4 yrs. Previous to this point it was clear that I had to work although I don't see it being a successful idea, but no choice. Unexpectedly, I have not been able to get hired, if I'm even considered, And the leasing will not allow us to break the lease, nor can we be approved currently at any other property as we won't qualify for the needed space that increases the cost. I am trying to get my mom placed and after a long wait was approved by ALTSC but unfortunately, it does not cover room/board and there are little resources to assist an 87-year-old lady with an income from social security benefits of $878.
Our lease ends mid-no and to this point, we do not have any other resources to sell, borrow, cash out, deplete as the last of it is going for August (late, cause getting harder to meet this large nut that tripled in the time were in the area).
We have come very close to eviction, but trying not to get there as we make it by the skin of our teeth, but we can't think of what else we can do to survive SEPT, OCT, NOV. These 3 months may bury us financially permanently. I'm sure it sounds dramatic and drastic, but trust me, it comes to that. This property WILL NOT accept payments directly from any other source and payments are only acceptable from the tenant. They would rather evict us than let us break the lease, which I find to be cruel. Unexpected Hardships to average people who didn't have enough to weather the storm. I had pensions, 401K, etc. and it is all gone.
So, no, I didn't plan for housing to triple as well as everything else as the cost of living in Gilbert AZ was one of the biggest reasons a lot of people moved here. It is no longer the case and that's not the public's fault as these property developers and rental properties were allowed to increase costs in the most aggressive manner, it has caused middle class families now in the poverty margin, rise in homelessness, crime, congested traffic, neighborhood decline due to pollution, and so many other negative effects so someone like me who has been out if the job market due to unrecognized disabilities, caregiver responsibilities at the now age of 60 is having a hard time getting a job and cannot find a way to get out of this hole.
Planning for some kind of low income assisted living facility for 87-year-old mom with dementia and somewhere my husband and I can get approved and afford a studio in Gilbert is proving challenging and we are trapped here. If there are any assistance programs in Gilbert AZ or Maricopa County that you can provide as I found most were only available to people already evicted or where landlord was willing to accept, I am desperately grateful to you. Looking for mom by herself as she is a priority here, I'm finding her income for even generally income without elderly or assisted living criteria, has been disillusionment as after I find one after tons of looking which takes so much time, have either had a 2 or more year wait or I'm told she does not qualify for their low income rentals because her income is too low.
If you can even let me know how to apply for a voucher or gear me to section 202 properties that she can qualify for, at least we'd have one less person to worry about and she can be secure.
I appreciate your help. I have more illnesses now than 4 years ago, including mental health illness, so I'm probably not making clear communication.
I appreciate any help.
