While it is great you want to move to be closer to family and your 94 year old mom (bless her!) help to move is not common. As most people need some funds to move, even if just across the state like you are from Charleston to Greenville. I came across your site and find it is very helpful as I desperately try to fund my way back to self-sufficiency in a house. Also, I need to move out of Charleston to closer to my 94-year-old mother asap. That state is SC - specifically, the Greenville area.

Apparently, state agencies are either flooded with applicants or have nothing to offer me. Therefore, I believe that church, charity, non-profits, or the private sector is the way to go.
I turned sixty-six years old (young) two weeks ago and feel it is now or never for me to get away from Charleston, South Carolina, where I relocated to twenty-eight months ago, only to find the job I took was miserable and way out of my creative callings after six month, leaving me almost homeless until the local Office on Aging discovered a crowdfunding campaign I was waging to keep from living in my car.
They convinced me to take my SSA retirement earlier than I'd planned to.
It pays my rent for a tiny efficient apartment here, while my belongings and tools to make money from a house I lived in in Nashville, TN from 2001 until 2015 languish in storage in a basement. in New Jersey. It is very sad, but I have many creative callings which can earn me money on a freelance basis (attached) to augment my SSA, if only I can get out of here and into a house up in Richmond.
I am looking at the $750 - $850 a month price range, which means the security deposit would be one month's rent in advance, plus some travel expenses; so maybe I need about $1,000.
Please point me in the right direction if you can. I believe in you. Your site helped me locate a church in Charleston which donated a bed to me in 2021!

Hello my name is Sherri and the feds and GOP got rid of me. I am 2 months behind on my rent. I’m 60 years old on SSDI but worked for the government too, but I get $1202 a month from SSDI. I had some unexpected bills come up in February, then the president Musk laid me off, which made everything off schedule. My rent is $799.00 a month I get section 8 and they pay the rest. Can you please help? I also get $32.00 a month SNAP benefits too as I was a secretary at the ICE in Charleston and we did our jobs getting rid of immigrants and I they cut my job. F**** Musk and Trump is under his control.

There are various charity run clothing centers and Christmas programs in the Charleston South Carolina region. However if you have 5 kids and only live on disability, it will be difficult for you. You may need to find a job, live with friends, and take other steps. As food stamps and SSI are not enough. Hello I’m a single parent with my 5 children. we are one of those not so fortunate families who have just recently come out of the shelter in Charleston. We were blessed with a home thru Home Inc. due to me being disabled, but we are on a fixed income which is my SSI and our food stamps.

Well after paying bills and what not there isn’t much left for Christmas tree or gifts for my family. Its sad to see my little one putting in their letters in the mail box to Santa but looks as if Santa can't make it this year. A friend asked me if I had signed up for gifts this year. I had no idea that there was such a thing and she mentioned Salvation army. Perhaps I’m too late. I am a believer and I pray that this gets read in time for some assistance before Christmas eve so my children can believe just as much as I that miracles do come true thank you.

Thanks for the information. I have tried these agencies. East Cooper Outreach was of no help because I didn't live

in their area. TriCounty Ministries when I called said they had no funds to help.

Chas Cty Human Services is a hard one to get a hold of. If I can get to them I will have to go talk with them directly

due to they leave busy signal on their phone all the time.

It was good you called the Charleston Unit Way. Not sure who they referred you to, but here are some more organizations, charities, and places to try to call for help.
Try the link below, but other names include East Cooper Community Outreach (phone number 849.9220), Tricounty Family Ministries (phone 747-1788) as well as the Charleston County Human Services Commission (843-724-6760). All of these may have rent and utility help, be able to refer you to government programs, and provide other forms of aid and support. Here are more options.

I am currently unemployed and have signed up for assistance but they are dragging their feet on the application process.

Also does anybody know of any programs or charities that help with home repairs? I currently rent a trailer and I need to

have the furnace looked at and have repaired plus also need to have other things looked at and repaired. I have informed my

landlord but I'm not getting the repairs done things are going to make my bills go sky high.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
