Re: Can't get help from Catholic Charities as not in the church

Post by Tidd »

Dear gentlemen, I am in a very bad place at the moment and I can't find any local assistance in my area from a church. I am one month behind on my rent and I desperately need help from anyone who can help me. I got laid off at the beginning of August, so that put me behind on bills which my landlord is threatening to evict me. I am a single male with three pets living in a house under a road home program and my rent is $542 a month.
I just recently got another job and started working, but I won't receive payment until the 11th of March. I'm asking for any assistance I can receive from anyone who can get me out of this terrible situation. I currently reside in the downtown area of New Orleans, but all the churches here never have funds available including the Catholic charities here. I only asking for assistance to help me be current on my bills, so please I'm begging desperately for someone to help me.

Re: Catholic Charity permanent housing

There is a Catholic Charities in Santa Clara County. While they may not help with the deposit, they may offer other solutions. There are shelters, case management services, and other social services available. Even if they do not have funds for your housing, they may know who does. So try the Santa Clara California Catholic Charities.

Hello Catholic Charities,
I am looking for information regarding a senior caretaker.
My sister-in-law is 88 and a former nun. We would like someone to live with her 24 x 7 and wondered if you perhaps could help us. She does not need help paying her bills. I thought you might know someone in the area of Valley Center that might be able to live with her (for a salary of course) and attend to her daily needs.
She fell and fractured her hip and is in a rehab center doing therapy right now.
We would like someone who is Catholic and bonded.
Can you please assist us?

My family is in immediate need of emergency rental assistance for our permanent housing. We received an eviction notice and have until Monday the 28th to come up with $475.00. We have received help from our local Catholic Outreach in the past and they only help once.
My husband had surgery last month, (December), which left us both out of work as I had to help him with his recovery as well as take care of our 2 year old son. We have both recently returned to work but business is just so slow we are barely bringing a paycheck home.
Also, we have received a section 8 housing voucher, but the landlord of the place needs $750.00 for the deposit for us to be able to move in, then our rent will be $280.00 a month, we are paying $550.00 a month where we are at now and got behind the $475.00 due to my husband’s surgery. If there is any way Catholic Charity can help us or know of any resources that can, please contact me.

RENT IS DUE, AND I HAVE EVICTION NOTICE. ELECTRIC IS PAST DUE, I NEED GAS AS THATS HOW I HEAT MY HOME. I'VE TRIED SOCIAL SERVICES IN GEORGETOWN, THEY COULD NOT HELP ME, SO I WENT TO 1ST STATE COMMUNITY ACTION, BUT THEY HAVE NO FUNDS RIGHT NOW. I CALLED CATHOLIC CHARITIES, THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME MUCH, MAYBE WITH VERY LOW FUNDING, BUT WANTED TO HELP ME WITH A BUDGET PLAN, THATS NOT GOING TO HELP IF I'M ALREADY BEHIND.
THE SALVATION ARMY, DIDN'T SAY YES OR NO, BUT WANT TO GO OVER MY CHECK BOOK (AND I WILL GET THAT INFORMATION TOGETHER), AND THE LIST GOES ON WITH DOORS BEING CLOSED IN MY FACE. I'VE EVER NEEDED HELP BEFORE, AND WHEN I ASK FOR HELP, I GET NOTHING. I DON'T INTEND FOR THIS TO BE ONGOING, JUST TO GET CAUGHT UP AND HAVE A PIECE OF MIND!

You need to apply to Catholic Charities. Maybe they can provide short term help for the power bills you have if you will really be getting a disability check for your husband. Or maybe they will offer you a loan too. In any case, if he has heart failure and will never be able to walk again, you need long term case management support from them. Read more Catholic Charities services.

Most churches that are part of Catholic Charities offer support regardless of religion. However it does vary, and of course they have zero obligation to help anyone. Unfortunately it almost reads as if your daughter thinks she is "entitled" to receiving assistance, which is very unfortunate. That being said, we have thousands of other non-profits listed right on the site that she can try. Or she can also call other local Catholic Charity churches as the policies do vary by site.

Can't get help from Catholic Charities as not in the church

My daughter just contacted your organization for help and was told no
Because she is not a member of the Catholic Church. They also failed
To try to help her find other options by simply ending the call. If
You are no longer helping people of different faiths then please
Change your website. There is no light at the end of the tunnel for
Her and my grandson....I made the mistake of reading your website and
Gave her false hope. Thank you for that.

If you are in transitional housing, how can you owe $1700? Also, it also sounds like you are waiting on a job offer from the Staffing company. So you really don't have one. Anyway, maybe Catholic Charities can help. Maybe not. They too have limited resources. But you can try them, and find Catholic Charity churches.

I was born and raised Catholic and never did I think that I would ever need Catholic charities. My fiance has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure, no lung function, diabetes. He will never be able to work again. His family help us 2 months ago.
Our power will be cut off on July 10th, water any day. He has applied for disability and sold be getting a check soon. My power and water are past due. Both in my name. Thank you. Have a blessed day.

Catholic Charities usually helps with housing needs. But security deposits would be kind of rare. it really depends on town, city, and church as well as income and other needs. So it really depends. You need to call your local branch, and we have them listed. Locate Catholic Charity centers.

Catholic Charity permanent housing

Post by Trader »

Dear Catholic Charities,

We were homeless for a while, early September we moved into transitional housing and we really need some assistance today please. I have been looking for a job and I should be starting work this week, however, I owe $1700 on a rent or quit notice that was served to me and my family on Friday and we do not have the money. This will help us move into permanent housing too.

But I should hear from Exact Staffing, or Select Staffing today regarding a position or one of the companies that I have had a second interview with at this time. Please we don't have the money, we are sleeping on the floor, we can not get to our storage in Victorville to get clothing and stuff for work. We have been begging every one that we can find and they won't even return the emails or call's.
We have no help and we need some assistance emergency, today please.

Well, Catholic Charities will help people of all religions, so that should not be a factor. We know the demands for assistance in Las Vegas is very high and they do have very limited funding. So just call, see if you qualify, and see if they have funding. There are actually several locations in Clark County Nevada, so that statement is not accurate. Even if they can't assist, Catholic Charities will often have referrals to other resources too. Find more details on their programs. http://www.needhelppayingbills.com/html ... ities.html

How do I get help from Catholic Charities

Post by Mushy »

Hello, I have a daughter who has 3 small children. A week ago their electricity got turned off and not a single person will help them. She just lost her job and her husband is working part time ... they are a low income family and really struggling to make ends meet. She has tried getting help from DSS in Nevada and Catholic Charities but they say they cannot help her. The Las Vegas Catholic Charities seems to have only one location to. Is that right? She is very stressed out over this especially with 2 little kids and no place to turn to for help. Please if there is anything you can advise for me to tell her or any way you can help them it would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you so much. Desperate Mother trying to help Family.

Re: Grants from Catholic Charities

Post by Admin - Jon McNamara »

Riverside California? If so calling Catholic Charities and the community action agency are both great steps. But there are other places to call. While maybe they won't have funds or grants, they may have other suggestions for you or information on places to call. Here is a listing of Riverside assistance from non-profits. For example, there are places like the Salvation Army-Riverside Corps which can be called at 951.784.4490. Second Harvest Food Bank (while have mostly food) may have a listing of non-profits or agencies that offer financial assistance and support. Call them at 951.359.4757
