Re: assistance getting security deposit and first month rent

Post by Camillia »

My friend (30 years old) & his Dad(70) fell on hard times last year. They fell behind on rent resulting w/ an eviction on 03/20/12. My friends Dad has stage 4 cancer of the pancreases & kidney. He receives SSI Disability ($860. month) my friend's his caretaker ($280-$310. month) . DHSS gave a raise but cut his hours,he's the youngest of 5 & has been caring for & living with his Dad for over 3y ears. Needless to say they have bonded, & love one another and don't like to be apart. My friend had friends in Camarillo who let his father stay in their home from 03/08/12-04/01/12. They need a rental opportunity had come but fell thru. My friend & his dad in a motel ($300 per week) with me. My nephew and I were staying with family when they were evicted 03/13/12. We'd been so friends and family, now the motel. The 4 of us are willing to live together, but need an affordable house. Together we rent from $1950.-2250.00 monthly, minus food, medical expenses, such as transportation, medicines, clothes, and utilities. We've got $1250-1350 for rent. We need help, please. Thanks for your time

That is a super expensive security deposit, and rent for that matter. Are you in a major city, as we have not heard on the news about any floods hitting major cities like Boston or New York. Anyway, we do have some ideas and options for security deposits, and those can be found here. http://needhelppayingbills.com/html/sec ... tance.html Some charities and government programs may focus on deposits and moving costs too.

I have found another place to live but can't come up with the security deposit they are asking 3,775 which is the first months rent and security deposit $1888. This is a recurring event at this place where I stay and can no longer keep going through this if I could get some assistance I would greatly appreciate it....

Does your friend have a plan in place to pay the rent after he gets in the house? If so, then there may be some security and rent deposit programs. However before giving out cash most agencies want to ensure people will pay the rent, and not just get evicted in the near future. So read more on security deposit assistance agencies like the Salvation Army. Yes, homeless can be supported and receive aid too. Work with your DSS as well.
Nicks19 wrote:My friend is homeless and on disability. He only receives 300 and something a month until he has a residence. He has been approved for a house and having a lot of difficulty coming up with the deposit and first month so he can get off the streets and his check increase (able to pay bills). He has paid $100.00 and has to pay $550.00 more to get in. Please let me know if there is any way to help. DSS will help with $300 but only after, he has the other $250. He has been using the money from this month to eat and survive. The assistance can be made payable to or directly given to him. Thank you and May God Bless!

My family and I were evicted in August and have been staying with random family and friends since that time trying to get on our feet. We have a 3 year old son and another baby boy due any day now. We can not find a place large enough for us all to stay together right now so my husband has been staying in another house, which really hurts because we are split up right as our second son is about to be born. All we need is security deposit assistance and we will be able to maintain. Please help us get into a home so we can all live as a family again. Thank you so much.

Have you asked the Seattle Catholic charities for help, if staying with them? Many offer some form of rapid rehousing, which may pay for deposit and/or first months rent. Try the Salvation Army for furniture and household items for a new home too. Locate more Seattle rent assistance programs here. Keep saving money while you are at that shelter too, as savings our key.

I am working however I just started a week ago and am concerned that I wont have enough saved in time to obtain a home for us. We also have nothing in regards to beds or furniture. I am truly trusting in GOD that his word truly never goes void and that someone will help us with what we desperately need. I am asking for help of all kinds and I am very appreciative for any and all help. Thank you. Seattle,WA 98121. You and GOD BLESS whoever you are.

Re: Security deposit assistance programs

It is a combination of things. Like he should use a food bank for his meals vs. spending that money on food. Also look into government medicine programs for health care needs. Those things will free up cash for rent and deposits. And also look into rent assistance in Santa Clara county California, as non-profits will help with paying for deposits and first months rent too. So he has that going for him as well.

Re: help with app fee and deposit for upcoming apartment

Post by Admin - Jon McNamara »

If you provided your state/county our reply would be more effective, as assistance programs are local in nature. While we wait for more information from you, use this link for rental assistance and information on security deposits and other financial assistance grants and housing counseling. A number of charities, non-profits, and government organizations operate in the country and each state.

Keep things in perspective, and $500 is not really that much money. Heck he can drive to Arizona and stay with you to save some money. Not that far of a drive. In the meantime, try this for rental assistance in Las Vegas, and call agencies like Help Of Southern Nevada for housing. Many other charities operate.
Olivia12 wrote:Please help me. My son lives in Las Vegas, i live in Arizona. He needs 500 to get into an apartment, he has saved the rest. He has said he is ready to give up, which he has tried before. Im at my wits end. I don't have a job and dont have any money. Please let me know if there is anything you can do for him. Its hard to hear your son is going to maybe due something drastic and there is nothing you can do but tell him that you love him. thank you

I am a full time working single parent parent, and attend school part time. I have a deadline to move out of a friends house by January 20th. I am trying very hard to save for my move but am having a very hard time making it. I have found a small apartment for my daughter and i in a good neighborhood. I heard through a friend, who recently received assistance with her rent, that the Salvation Army provides assistance for people who are in desperate need like i am. I am trying very hard to make ends meet and ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated in my time of need. I have enough for my first months rent but im in need of assistance with my deposit which is $900. Thank you so much for your time.

You did not provide nearly enough information for us to be able to help you. We need to know what county, state, etc. you live in. If you read these board you will see we repeatedly say that as most assistance programs are local. In the meantime select your state from this list http://needhelppayingbills.com/html/sta ... html#local then drill down to county, city, etc. in order to find emergency rental assistance.

We have information on tons of agencies, non-profits, and programs to call in Los Angeles County, which looks like where Sylmar is. Find the Los Angeles assistance programs, who to call, where to go for help, etc. Some may have housing, deposits, etc. To find agencies in the region that focus on housing and rent, find them listed here. http://needhelppayingbills.com/html/los ... tance.html Now you will need to call around, but this may give you some places to ask.
