Notice to vacate from one home, so we need another

Hello!
I have a friend who has fallen into homelessness in Nashville as we had to vacate our home and now we need a place to live. Sadly he isn't doing very well. Most doors are closed to him due to his lack of ID. I've been in this situation before, not being able to provide required at the DMV.
Does your organization know of a way a person who is indigent can get an ID card so we can get another home? I thought that an ID card made from a shelter and printout from the police department, showing a previous arrest or something would work. Unfortunately my friend isn't in his home state and is really losing hope here, again. Anyway you could help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

We are looking for assistance to get into a home for myself, my husband and our 4 kids. We have been given a notice to vacate at our current location after 3 years of living there. Any help you can give would be grateful.
