If the main issue is housing or potential foreclosure, we tell people to start the process by speaking to a HUD approved housing agency. They are non-profits and provide free advice. My sister was diagnosed with lymphoma, was laid off in May of 2011, has applied for disability and twice turned down, has gone to the state for help thru state programs and told they were not taking any new applications. Attorneys told not to file for unemployment since she really can no longer work. She is going to lose her townhome since she cannot afford the mortgage. Where can she turn for help since every agency has turned her away.
