Hi,
We have lists of utility programs for both the state of VA as well as local counties and cities, like Charlottesville. Find the city assistance programs here. https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... sista.html
As far as the state programs, it will depend on who your light/gas company is. Look for them here at the state of Virginia utility assistance.

I am writing because my family and I are in need of any assistance available for out light and gas bills. I have struggled in the past but always made things work the best I could. This year I find myself and family in need of help with utility bills that are in danger of being cut off in the morning which I just found out. We live in Charlottesville VA.

This year I find myself and family in need of help with utility bills that are in danger of being cut off in the morning which I just found out. We live in Charlottesville VA. The first to go will our lights. I had been working but because of medical emergencies happening at work, I am on medical leave and can't return til I have a doctor say I can. I have chronic medical issues and diagnosis which doesn't make things easier. My heart is breaking because for the first time I have no clue how I'm gonna manage for my kids. Their father is deceased and I have no help. I have been trying to apply for emergency food stamps in Charlottesville which would help tremendously. I honestly don't know what to do or who to contact about any of these issues.
Thank you for your time and help with however you can, be it information or assistance.
Here are some energy assistance programs in Virginia. Virginia Natural Gas has the EnergyShare. This will help with energy bill and utility bill payments if all alternatives available through social services and government aid have been exhausted. Call the Salvation Army. Or try the City of Charlottesville and the Gas Assistance Program. This assistance program provides emergency energy bill payments for lower and mid income households that are not able to pay their their gas bills and have exhausted all other state and federal government assistance.
