Re: Rent help for disabled

Post by Demi Sutra »

I am disabled and downsizing. Right now, I am in a two-bedroom, and I have been waiting for a one-bedroom that I could afford that is handicap friendly. I placed my name on a waiting list. I was #34, then I got an email saying I was now #10. But I was told they no longer have any more apartments for low income.
So I have been waiting for a one-bedroom to open up. I have a rental history. My daughter moved, and my common-law husband passed away suddenly. He found out on 8/3/25 that he had cancer, and the next month he passed. Since then, I have been getting help from family members who needed help with child care when their sitter was out of town.
The management knows I have a good payment history, but they told me I have to pay a $500 deposit because the one from the two-bedroom does not transfer over. If I take that out of my disability check, I will not be able to cover my upcoming rent.

You have any income? how you even pay the rent to date Tracey? If you are homebound, ever look for a at home job or you on social security disability? Anyhow, the folks at NHPB have all the Louisiana parishes covered for the rent stuff here https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... siana.html

Re: Rental assistance while waiting on disability

Post by Hook Paw »

Hello,
My name is Anna. For the first time in my life I am looking for resources for emergency rental assistance as I needed to file disability and it will take time to get paid from them..
In August, I was let go from my full-time job shortly after returning from disability for cancer treatments. While I am still undergoing treatment, I’ve been unable to secure a new full-time position. To continue my care, I had no choice but to apply for Medi-Cal. Until recently, I was receiving unemployment benefits, but for the past month, those payments have stopped.
This sudden loss of income has left me unable to cover my rent for the first time. My rent is $2,775, and I currently have less than $200 to my name and the disability filing may take months. I’ve never been late on rent before, and I’ve done everything I can to find a solution, but I’ve reached the end of my options.
I am reaching out in hopes that you might be able to provide additional support or resources. Any assistance you can offer would mean the world to me during this challenging time. Thank you for your kindness and understanding.
I live in San Diego County in California.
Be well,
Anna

Hi all,
We have multiple federal and local programs that can help disabled people with their rent. HUD, state benefits, charities and others offer either financial help or rent subsidized housing for adults of any age with a disability. Find them here. https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... sable.html

Hi all,
It really depends on when the disability may start. If confirmed to get payments in a week or so, a program may help. But if the SSI or SSDI may not start for months, or still not approved, then rent assistance may be harder to get in your community. But here is a list of local resources. https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... r_you.html

Re: Rental assistance while waiting on disability

Post by Why »

I live in Saint Petersburg, FL 33705.
I reside at the, Banyan Tree Project, which is an alcohol & drug rehabilitation center. I have been a resident / client for 25 months now but am leaving and need money for the rent as I apply for disability with a law firm. I get my health care from the county health & I see a counselor at Suncoast mental health.
I have a disability lawyer and have started the appeal process. Now I have been notified it may take another 18 months for a hearing.
I need assistance with rent, I have been allowed to stay here more than my allowed time already. I don't know if I could be allowed anymore time here.
I am 28 months sober and I am comfortable with my life finally. I just need a little more time.
Any reply would be appreciated, thank you.

I am disabled and I am having a difficult time paying rent and I am facing eviction. I cannot afford where I live. I have 2 month left on my lease and I was trying to stay there because I didn't want an eviction. I can't avoid the inevitable and everything I have tried to stop from happening is happening now. I really need transitional assistance and help finding a new place to stay.

Re: Disabled couple needs help with rent, no agencies availible

If you are about to marry a new man, live with him now. Seems very straightforward. It is better that than to be homeless. So that is what to do.
As far as getting back on your feet, here are some programs to try for rent help for the disabled. http://www.needhelppayingbills.com/html ... tance.html

I am a disabled single woman age 45 but just about to marry a new man. I lost my job October 31 due to I just can't work anymore. I am about to be evicted and I have nowhere to go. I am currently trying to get SSI and Housing but I am having a hard time understanding what to do. My internet is due to be shut off tomorrow.
I need someone to help me get back on my feet again before we are a couple. I don't want to be living on the street. I have too many medical problems. Please call me and tell me what I need to do.

Re: No income for rent as wife and me both permanently disabled

Post by Admin - Jon McNamara »

The Salvation Army in Delaware often has programs for the disabled, including housing and referrals. But how do you have a lack of income? Aren't you on SSI if disabled? So even if the Salvation Army can't help as they do not have funding, ask them for referrals. They are listed here. http://www.needhelppayingbills.com/html ... ssist.html
Suddenchange wrote:Hi, My wide and I are both permanently disabled are seeking help. We have recently encountered hardship due to lack of income and the rising cost of medical care. We have fallen behind on rent along with other bills. I have explored all agencies and been told either there are no funds available, or call back in the future to see if any will come available. If possible, can you please advise me where to turn for help to avoid eviction come October.

Have an eviction notice for to pay or vacate by the 30th. I can and am willing to prove that I can pay future months of rent without any problems, even though my wife and I are permanently disabled. I have a guaranteed job starting the second weekend in May and I cannot loose my house for mine and my kids sake. I need help pay only 3 months of rent. Please help me and my family stay of the street. My rent is $800 per month. Thank you!

Re: Disability voucher to pay rent

Post by Carolyn12 »

I need some information in how I can get some assistance to move out of where I am living now as I am disabled. The rent is way too high and I cannot pay it- my salary is not too high, even when counting the voucher I get. I am 59 years old and I was bed ridden for 6 month due to a foot ulcer that is not completely cured. I have my son who is desperately looking for work but it’s been a nightmare. We are facing eviction and have no food until I get pay again or get a higher voucher for my rent from the disability office. I hope I will hear from you because I do not have any other way turn.

Hi,
I need information on getting help paying rent. I just moved in had to put down a deposit that I didn't know about for my disability friendly home. I need to get a cell phone bill caught up. But I just got a wage garnishment for a bill back in 2010. I'm running out of money to get all this caught up. I should be fine after one month’s rent paid so I can get the rest caught up.

Hi, We have information on many rental assistance programs, vouchers, and HUD resources for the disabled. Now some may not help with a deposit (that is less common) but you can try them. Since you have a full time job, and also 5 kids, that should also assist on your application. For more details, read the resources here. http://www.needhelppayingbills.com/html ... tance.html

So do you need emergency rent help or assistance in locating a new home? They are completely different issues. Also, if you are disabled with numerous issues, it sounds like a bad idea to live by yourself. You sound like a candidate for supportive housing. How will you possibly afford the bills, rent, and other costs if you are very sick? Anyway, if you insist, then find some emergency, one time rent programs that you can always apply to. http://www.needhelppayingbills.com/html ... tance.html

I need information on housing assistance with a disability. I lost my apartment and now am living with my oldest son and his family. I still have a minor child and we really need our own place to live. Please send me any information you can. I really appreciate it.

I am a disabled, widowed, single mother of two. I am in desperate need of finding a home or rental assistance to get into an apartment, condo, townhouse, home etc. If there's any way that you can help please contact me immediately. I am truly wanting to find something around the Tempe Arizona area as I'm trying to go back to school at Southwest institute of healing arts. Thank you and God bless.
