Larry, I'd reach out to Pitt County Department of Social Services at 252-902-1110 and also the Greenville-Pitt County Salvation Army. Tell them and have proof of being an office it may help. And thank you for your years of service as a police officer.
Both may have utility assistance or know of local programs that can help with your Duke Energy bill. And you know better than me, but any Police unions or focused options? Something to think about.
Since you just applied for SSDI, you may also want to contact Legal Aid of North Carolina if your bankruptcy or benefits become an issue.

My name is Larry My fiancé' and I live in Greenville NC, and we need assistance if possible.
Back I'm May of this year, I lost my job and since have exhausted all my unemployment benefits. Just last week we received a notice from Duke Energy about our lights.
I am in bankruptcy, but I have not had any success in finding a job. I am behind on my bankruptcy payments and last month the trustee was going to dismiss my case, however he added the back payments to my regular payments.
I'm a 22-year veteran police officer and with a back condition, I just applied for SSDI Benefits yesterday.
If there is anything your agency can do, We would most grateful!
