Re: Struggling to pay rent as I recover from a brain injury

Post by Harvin »

Hello, my name is Julie. I am trying to help my friend Lisa. She has a traumatic brain injury and lives by herself in her home, in Columbia Heights. She receives $1500/MO Social Security and her rent payment is more than that. We have attempted to decrease her rent payments, but in the meantime, she will really need help with her utilities as well as that rent. Please tell me how I can help her apply for any grants or assistance.
Thank you,
Julie

Struggling to pay rent as I recover from a brain injury

Post by Peter Nagares »

My name is Jackie and about a month ago I fell off a ladder at work and fractured my skull, which then begin a bleed on the brain ultimately becoming a blood clot on the brain. I am temporarily off work as I recover. I am reaching out because I am in desperate need of assistance. I have reached out to my local housing authority regarding Emergency Rental Assistance Program also known as ERA I had read about, but was informed Ohio was not granted any of those funds. I turned to Jobs and Family Services and was able to qualify for food assistance which is very helpful although what I really need help with is my rent. It appears that because I do not have any minor children in my house hold I automatically do not qualify for a lot of things.
I live in Ravenna, Ohio, which is in Portage County.
I have discharge paperwork from the hospital and doctor notes showing I have been off work. I have my rental lease and any other documents needed. If Salvation Army can help me at all it would be so greatly appreciated and/or guide me to recourses who can help. I will be forever grateful, I thank you in advance for your time and look forward to hearing from you.
