Hi Mike
Staying in one place, such as Warwick, for that long is not common these days! Hopefully you have tons of insight on the market, housing, places that may help you, etc. As even your friends or family may have ideas. But from or end, find the rent help and housing resources in Warwick.

Short term housing in Warwick RI needed

Post by DJack »

Hi,
My name is Mike, I have been a Rhode Island resident all of my life, born and raised in Warwick. I am 40 years old, disabled since 20, and my current living situation is with my mother in Warwick. I have applied to the RI housing program in 2019 and finally received an interview to apply for residency at a new apartment complex that's being built in Warwick RI, called Pine View Apartments (PVA). I had my interview recently and spoke with a gentleman named David, and according to him, they are allowing people to move in as soon as the apartment construction and everything is 100% complete, and all 100 units will be called to move in, in waves of 30 per month beginning in September, October, and November 2024. I am one that is supposed to be filling one of those units at PVA but I am not sure which month I will be called to move in, no one knows.
In the meantime, I can wait, and that was my plan until recent. But I do need a place to stay or housing unit in Warwick until the new home is ready.
My mother house has just recently been sold, which is where I live now, and she is moving out of state, but I choose to stay in RI and wait for placement at PVA. In the meantime while I wait, I do not know where I can go. I have a car, no extra money left over from SSDI, and I have been looking for another source of income and applying for jobs for a while now. I am in the hiring process for a driving job working 3rd shift, hopefully starting soon.
Is there any info. Or resources you might have as to where I can get temporary shelter for a few months, at most, just so I have somewhere to sleep and shower? Or any ideas at all? I've never been homeless before and to be quite honest, I'm not at all comfortable with public homeless shelters either. Nor do I know if I would be allowed to leave at night to work 3rd shift and sleep 1st or 2nd shift. I'm just really confused of what to do, and I am only staying here homeless in RI, by choice, instead of moving with my mother, because I have a son who has a relationship with me, and I refuse to move away from him. He lives with his mom in CT, and I see him religiously every other weekend for the past 10 years.
