To whom it may concern:

I am writing you because My family and I need help paying for our utility bills! We live in Red Bluff,ca in a Mobile home that is poorly insulated. Our home is freezing in the winter, and so Hot in the summer! The vents to our home are not even properly closed, you can see the ground outside!! From some of the vents on the
floor,so we have had to cover those vents up ourselves. The windows are not insulated at all,or oven is from the 1970's,and we constantly smell gas coming somewhere in
the home! This has made our PG& E bills so high. We are on a very fixed income. Are on medical, food stamps,Etc. My husband is the only one who works right now,and we have two kids to take care of! If you could please point us into the right path on where we need to turn,on getting some assistance with our outrageous Utility Bills I would be ever so grateful! Thank you for you time! I look forward to hearing from someone soon!

Re: Income too high for LIHEAP

That is one of the problem with LIHEAP. Some people have an income that is just slightly too high to qualify. So they can't pay their bills, and the government won't help. More moderate income people. They are in a tough spot. Why the heck is your light bill so expensive? $850 is way above average. It should be $100 to $200 per month at most. Call the utility company and tell them of the problem. Maybe it is the meter. And other programs can be found here.

I applied and asked around. Last month light bill was 770.00 this month is 850.00. My light company had me to have an electrician come and check my house and he said he could not find any thing wrong. My electrical company would not decrease my bill and all the companys that help with paying electrical bills had no funds available. I have two kids and no where to go I really need help keeping my lights on. I have never been in a situation like this before. I do have a job but not enough funds to pay a light bill that has been 770 and 800 per month. My light bill usually average 250 with cable and internet. I don't understand why my bill drastically increased. I live in georgia

The United Way of Central Kentucky partners with local non-profits and community action agencies, and they are always a great place to call. (270)737-0669. Community Health Charities of Kentucky at 1-888-336-3611 has info on LIHEAP and other utility and energy bill programs. And in this area, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is run by the Central Kentucky Community Action Council, and more info is below.

I am in arrears to MLGW and receive a cutoff notice every month. If the LIHEAP program does not help me pay my utility bills then I may have my service turned off, freeze to death, or lose my home. You live in New Jersey? I do not think an utility company can turn your power off if you have a medical need. I think that may be illegal and you definitely have rights in this case. Try contacting a pro bono attorney who can provide legal advice, if you have certain income limits. It sounds like you do. Here is the info on how to get pro bono and free legal advice in New Jersey.

While you may have tried two agencies, there are more in Columbus and Muscogee County. One of the programs and phone numbers to call is (706) 649-1600. The agency offers emergency food and LIHEAP and other resources for paying energy and utility bills. So of them may be able to help, even if you have income concerns from LIHEAP or if your income is too high.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which is abbreviated as LIHEAP, is a federal government program that helps people pay for heating, cooling, and energy bills. The aid is targeted towards low income, the elderly, and disabled. Funds are used for both a crisis situation, and to help make regular, recurring utility bill payments. Overall the funding is extensive, and helps millions of people each and every year.

That is a problem with the ow Income Home Energy Assistance Program. If your income is mid level, then it can't help you. But sadly that is true of most assistance programs. The rich do not need help, the low income qualify, and middle income families are left out. Here is some info on West Pittston and Luzerne. I hope it helps.

I live alone, work a full time job and go to school at night, I also have a car payment. I dont think LIHEAP takes any of this into account. The winter is approaching and I have no oil whatsoever. I don't have the $1500 its going to take to fill up my two 250 gallon tanks. I don't have the money to install new windows or any insulation. I can't find any places that will give me the help I need. I live in West Pittston, PA 18643 and cant find anywhere near here that will help me. Do you have any suggestions?

LHEAP is a federal and state government assistance program. Where can I get help from if my income is too high, which it is. I also do not like dealing with these government programs. Any other options, besides LHEAP assistance?

When do you need to sign up and apply for LIHEAP (low income home energy assistance program) Someone said you need to sign up in the summer for the 2009 winter season. Is that correct? Do you need to apply that soon? How do i apply in New York. Thank you.

LIHEAP is a program that can save you on heating and cooling bills. The government has greatly increased the grants and funds for this program as well. Here are a couple of good links on how to get aid.
