The main NHPB site has more information on local rent assistance programs.

Re: There is a waiting list for rental programs

Post by Saint Mark »

Hello,
I am writing this inquiry on behalf of my senior father, who has been living in his apartment for nearly twenty years. He is a renter and, after being laid off from his job several years ago, has had a very challenging time finding work. He works part time whenever he can find opportunities to do so, but, with his age, this is becoming increasingly difficult. I am reaching out to see whether there are any rent assistance programs for seniors that would allow him to remain in his current apartment. as seem so many have no funds or a long wait.
Thank you for your time and help,
Nika

Hello, I need help paying my rent. I don't know where to go or what to do to get moved up on the waiting list. We are $400 short on rent and our three day notice expired last week. We only have one income, and then cash assistance from welfare. We have 2 little kids under 5. Rent is putting us out of food for this week. But we need to get rent paid or we will get kicked out. Please help. Thank you.

All agencies have limited funding and restrictions in place. Also, you are not entitled to anything, so your tone and request is completely inappropriate. Any one dollar that any agency can give. you should be extremely grateful for, and demanding money is terrible. It makes people much less likely to ever want to help. Any, try the Crosswalk agency here for other suggestions. http://www.needhelppayingbills.com/html ... n_age.html

I HAVE already attempted this morning to go to our local "Crosswalk Community Action Agency" but this location only allows 5 applications one day per week on Wednesdays!! By the time I got up there all and the ONLY 5 WERE ALL GONE FOR THE WEEK. I am going to try again next week, BUT we really need some more resources/help/assistance NOW.
Please contact me ASAP.
I could really use any info/tips/or what to do next because we are going to be evicted and we have a disabled 3 year old autistic, non verbal toddler who gets SSI disability and we can't be out in the cold.
