Bay County Michigan assistance programs.

Emergency funds, free food, and financial help is provided from the list of agencies in Bay County noted below. Find a charity, church, or government benefit program to turn to for assistance with paying electric or utility bills, housing (including rent or mortgages), deposits, and other bills. The assistance from the organizations below is often combined with free items, including a box of food, gasoline vouchers, health care, or clothes for kids or someone seeking a job.

Receive help with paying bills

There are organizations that can provide you with short term help. The Mid Michigan Community Action has been helping families for over 40 years. They operate in Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Mecosta, Midland and Osceola Counties. Just over the last year they assisted almost 20,000 families with their bills, and provided over $10 million in aid.

MMCAA offers over 20 programs to help low to moderate income families by offering them short term help, and also be allowing them to become more stable over the long term. Some of these programs include:

  • Rent and Mortgage Assistance, including first months rent, help paying past due rent, foreclosure assistance, and help with security deposits.
  • Food Assistance
  • Housing Repair/Rehabilitation
  • Early Head Start
  • WIC
  • Housing solutions, such as information on no interest loans for back rent that is due and referrals to transitional housing in Bay County.
  • Homeownership/Down payment Assistance
  • Preschool
  • Emergency dental services for Bay City residents. Cleanings and other dental help is offered, some in partnership with Michigan dental centers.
  • Energy bills. Various programs that help Bay County residents pay for winter heating bills, prevent a service disconnection, and other aid.
  • Financial counseling, including budgeting, help dealing with debt, and other programs.

 

 

 

 

The above list is just a sampling. They have a host of other programs and ways they they are helping people with bills, rent, and more. There are several other non-profits, charities, and/or government programs located in Bay County Michigan. Some are funded by the federal government, others by private and public donations. Many partner with the local United Way as well. Some of the agencies to try to call for help include the following.

Department of Human Services in Bay County runs the SER program. For income qualified families facing a crisis, the state can offer financial help to assist people deal with job loss, direct low income individuals to financial assistance programs for paying rent and heating bills, and offer other services and resources. A homeless prevention program is available in Bay City. As grants are allocated by the federal government, there may be credit repair services, referrals to security deposit programs, shelter, and emergency rent help. Case management is also a key service. Phone - (989) 894-8158.

Short term housing, including emergency shelters and transitional housing, can assist low income families. Some units are for seniors, the disabled, or veterans. Non-profits work together to assist the homeless and less fortunate in Bay County Michigan.

In addition to housing, work with a case manager on applying for assistance such as for paying security deposits or rent. Meals, clothing, and referrals may also be available at the sites. Read northeastern Michigan transitional housing.

Hidden Harvest partners with local food banks, churches, and soup kitchens in order to provide and distribute food and groceries to low income in the region. Lutheran Child and Family Service of Bay City Michigan region can provide counseling on family and domestic issues, and can direct individuals to other local charities and non-profits so they can get help. Call 686.7650

Bay City Salvation Army Centers can help the less fortunate. There are two primary centers in the region and both of the locations administer a number of services for low income and the working poor. While the financial aid paid out for bills and living expenses is very limited, other programs in Bay City can distribute items such as food, clothing, and household goods.
