Families and individuals who need help can contact the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Baltimore. So called conferences and churches that are part of the charity organization can assist people of all religions and backgrounds. Short term crisis assistance can be provided by volunteers and others. St. Vincent can provide rental assistance, free food or meals, utility bill assistance, or other items of necessity to low income individuals and families, with a goal of helping people through difficult times. Also get referrals to appropriate human service agencies in Baltimore County and across Maryland.

Many centers have information on, or administer, Head Start. This is a comprehensive federal government created pre-school education program that may be able to help children from low-income families. It can prepare people for academic success and school. It will also promote age-appropriate social skills and deal with other needs, such as medical and dental. The Head Start program works in partnership with extended family, parents, non-profits, and other members of the community to offer developmentally and age appropriate case management, education, health, social aid, and family support services to families and their children.

Each family that asks for help is provided case management and other social services that support a stable and healthy family unit. Some of the aid offered can address nutrition services, health screenings and government disability support services are also offered. In addition, a free breakfast and lunch are provided daily.

FoodShare is a St. Vincent program that provides for emergency food and grocery distribution in the city and County of Baltimore. The aid is provided to local soup kitchens, churches and food pantries, which then provide the items and government commodities to the needy. FoodShare also operates in partnership with the Maryland Emergency Food Assistance Program. This means a number of groups in the Baltimore region all work together on addressing hunger. Receive housing assistance from the Cottage Avenue Community. Clients who are part of Cottage Avenue Community will be offered intensive case management services, advice, and other aid. The Society of St. Vincent Samaritan Center can provide comprehensive, coordinated and effective financial assistance and advice to homeless as well as low-income persons.
