Re: help with property taxes

Post by Jennifer Leathers »

I dear I'm legally blind with income of$12,000 per year from social security disability. My home is going to be auctioned by the government because of 2 years of back taxes. They were 2023-2024 --a time in which I was constantly in treatment for my eye condition. My parents paid for this home with all their life savings so that I would have a home--so there is equity that will disappear and I will be homeless. Blind and homeless. I am having difficulty paying my electric bill and water and cable because I've used my disability money this month to try seeking assistance without any luck. I am 41 years old and would also like guidance to apply for meals on wheels. God blessings.

Re: Desperate for help with property taxes

Yes, I am in desperate need of funds to pay my property tax, so I don't lose my home... I have no family that I can turn to that can help me with this large amount... I have lived in my home for 24 years and raised two children here.... My only income is my disability check that I receive.... I’m a single disabled leg amputee mom... please if there is any help there that can contribute to my not losing my home, I would be so grateful.... the tax must be paid prior to March 1st, or they will be able to sell my property on the courthouse steps for just what tax is owed.... but meanwhile penalty and late fees are being added on.... The amount due right now is $818. 25....thank you for any help with property taxes that you can provide...

The wife of Thomas is sending you this e-mail because we are in dire need of the hardship grants for property taxes.
We are DESPERATE. Please this is no joke. I am out of work PERMANENTLY with disability - all documentation is there. My hand deteriorated from e-coli blood bacterial infection also I have a born with condition called GRANULOMATOUS. I was on the 48-hour watch because my body was shutting down, so all my bills are paid from disability. But the real estate taxes are too much. NO WHERE does it say I need a dollar amount to pay.

Maybe the best thing to do is content your property taxes. As it is VERY rare to get financial help. The appeal process is kind of straight forward, but we have tips and suggestions, including examples of property tax appeal letters.

Hello.
I live in Conway, Faulkner County Arkansas.
I need help paying my property taxes this month as my other bills are paid.
I went into my apartment office to advise I had my utilities turned back on.
But, I need an extension to pay property taxes.  Today received notice to pay taxes by 5th, or foreclosure procedures will begin on 6th.
I have to pay a$10.00 late fee each day after the third.
Is there an application online to fill out?

My family and I need help paying our property taxes that we owe on. My husband was just fired from his job. I get disability but as of now have no money to pay this bill. We have 2 children - a 17 year old daughter and a 16 year old autistic son. The amount is $352 a month and is due December 23. At the moment we currently have no funds to pay this. We are on a payment plan each month and if we don't pay we can lose our home and go to auction. I really need help. I also applied for food stamps, cash assistance for my family. I'm located in Herminie, PA 15637. Thank you.

Paid all my bills except property taxes

Post by Damon »

Thank you for your time in listening to me and hopefully finding me the help that I need.
Since 2006 I have been plagued by many heart procedures, heart disease, depression, anxiety, just all in all bad health.
During the last four years I have lost everything ,I have gone without heat, running water, electric, and often go hungry, but I have managed to keep my home.
I fought for 4 years to get disability and finally got it in December which would help me with my property taxes.
I finally got electricity and running water, I still have no heat source but that is not my concern right now.
Dring those four years I was unable to pay my property taxes on my home which I worked hard most of my life to pay for, and now face losing due to back taxes.
3 years ago I sold my vehicle to keep my home off of the tax sale list.
2 years ago I sold my old boat to do the same.
Last year I made pay arrangements to keep it off of the list.
During those years I searched and searched for resources to help but found none.
No one out there is willing to help people like myself fighting to keep my home from being sold right out from under me.
When I begged for help from my treasurers office I was told ( quote ) welcome to America, where its pay your taxes or lose your home (un-quote).
Is this really what America has fallen to ..?? pay your property taxes or go homeless??
Is there no help out there for real estate taxes and properties disabled people struggling to survive?
I was told that I have to have the entire balance due by October 4th or lose my home, no exceptions...
The total I owe is $ 2,884.15 I am on a fixed income making 1,032.00 a month and with the payments I make to the Madison county treasurer each month I still go hungry quite often but I continue to pay, even though I was told that paying my payments won’t save my home unless I give the county the total in full by the date given (oct-4th). I have gone through so much health wise and poverty wise, surviving the elements, facing starvation. I’ve lost my family, my vehicle, my savings, but until now I have been able to at least keep a roof over my head, but now the county is threatening to take it as well, this is B.S. and should be illegal to do. Do I not have rights ????
I am pleading to you ---is there any way to help save my home? Is there funds available to help me? Are there organizations to help save disabled people’s homes who have hit hard times?
If we the people can't turn to our elected officials for help there is surely no property tax help for us Americans.
I don’t have any problem with continuing to pay my taxes monthly until it is paid in full, but the county government will not work with.

I am a senior in Rock Hill, S.C. I am on Social Security and my whole check is going to pay off bills and credit debt that I amassed before I retired. My property tax is due before September 1 for they will put my house on the market. I already received Notice of Intent. Is there a program that can help, me?

Re: Desperately seeking help with property taxes

$1100 is not a lot of money to owe in property taxes for a home they have lived in for 44 years. Can't they even refinance their mortgage, as we would assume they outright own the property. Also, they should ask the tax assessor in Boston for a payment plan, then after that is done, talk to a HUD counseling agency in Massachusetts. Those non-profits focus on housing, property tax, and other financial issues.

Well, if all of the property taxes are due right now, an abatement definitely will not work. You waited way too long to ask for help. It can takes weeks or longer to apply for an abatement or some other form of real estate tax relief. So you may want to talk to the government to see if they can give you more time. Or you more than likely will be foreclosed on. It just depends on how much notice your town needs to give. But still start the process in seeking property tax help, as we guess it is never too late to try.

Call the county tax office and tell them your situation. Most times they will try and work something out with you, they really don't want you to lose your house either.

Property taxes on grandmothers home

Post by HeadofFamily »

Hello to whom ever this concern,
My grandmother is the owner and she's 89 years old. She does own the property. But she has fell behind with her property tax for year 2012 and 2013. She recently received a summons to appear in court and her house is on the verge of foreclosure
This hurts a lot because grandmother has work her almost her whole life. To witness is heart wrenching. We need help and kind of assistance or advice.

I am disabled and I fell behind on my property taxes, and so although I own my home outright, I don't have a mortgage. It is going to be auctioned at tax auction. I've already tried speaking with my county tax office and they could only offer their payment plan, which I attempted, however, I wasn't able to afford the payment plan either. Now, its down to the wire and my home is going to be auctioned if I don't find some help in next few days.

Re: Behind on property taxes as lost job

Post by Admin - Jon McNamara »

In some cases a HUD counseling agency can provide advice on property taxes. They can also help you find a job in Oklahoma as well. But you should know that getting financial help for real estate taxes is very, very rare. Probably the best thing to do is to ask your local assessor for some type of payment plan to take care of any balance on your account.
Also, look into any state programs for those with a disability, and those are sometimes an option. Read more Oklahoma HUD counseling.

There is not too much you can do with taxes you now owe, but you can look into the exemption process in Texas. But it also sounds like you need much more. For example, if you are struggling with food and to even feed your family, that needs to take priority over taxes. That being said, here is information on the exemption process if you really want that to be your focus now. http://www.needhelppayingbills.com/html ... tions.html

Americans can work their entire life to own a property but in reality they don’t own it, if the taxes aren't paid the county can sell your property out from under you for what back taxes are owed and put you on the street. This also was told to me by a government official in the Madison county court house!
Thank you in advance for your time and any help that you might offer.

Hello,
I was just requesting some information on where to go for help with paying property taxes in California. Every July I struggle with this. I have had my property value lowered but it didn't help much with regard to lowering my taxes. I can normally pay my taxes in January because I use my government refund from my taxes for this purpose. I can't budget because I do not have a spare dime to my name. I live paycheck to paycheck and am always falling short. I am not married and only have my income to rely on. Any ideas or information you might be able to give me would be appreciated. I have tried the United Way and local non-profit agencies without much luck. I am not over 62 and therefore don't qualify for housing exemptions. There just doesn't seem to be much help in the community for assistance paying property taxes. I always get a red letter telling me they will foreclose on my house in ninety days if I don't make good on my bill. Sorry for rambling. Thank you again.
