You already took many of the right steps. United Way, trying the utility companies Neightbor to Neighbor program, community action, etc. You an try again as sometimes these places get additional funding.

Did you try the Tazewell County’s Clinch Valley Community Action Agency, and ask about Homeless Intervention Program (HIP) grant. It has funds for both housing expenses, including Utility Bills. Phone numbers and more info is here.

The injury to my back is so severe that due to the nerve damage I am unable to have surgery. I have been working at a little hand carwash when I can but when the owner notices me hurting she sends me home (not sure if it’s because she thinks I will be able to relive the pain at home or if it embarrasses her and makes the little business look bad?) I am awaiting a court date for the decision on the disability and thus far I have been able to make it with the food stamps and what little work I have been doing. But now my back is getting worse and can’t work as much, I even started to sell Avon 2 weeks ago. I contacted the community action agency and they can pay like $72.76 but not until I can get the rest of my bill paid and to avoid disconnection. I have been selling everything out of my home the past few years to make ends meet but now I have nothing else to sell. I even tried to sell my computer but it’s too old. I sold my TV Monday and called AEP but they said that would not be enough to keep the power on so I put the $50 on my water bill. Yesterday I paid $25 to AEP; I just got $20 for a picture that was on my wall and will go to the pay station tomorrow and pay that on the electric. Please is there anyone that knows how I can get help? Like I said I started selling Avon and with the money from the carwash I hope I’ll be able to keep the bills paid again. My rent is behind as well but I haven’t gotten a notice from my landlord yet so I think the power is the most important at this time. Please someone let me know how to get help. (I know this couple that parties all the time and the local community action agency paid over $1,200.00 to have their power restored) when I was working contributions were made to the united way thru payroll deductions and I have even made contributions to the neighbor-to-neighbor fund with our electric company, Now that I need help It seem like they are turning there back on me, The neighbor-neighbor is out of funds and the United Way never contacted me back….HELP please.
