Emergency food and groceries are provided by food banks and pantries in Akron and Summit County Ohio. Many have limited hours and funding available, so it is usually recommended to call in advance for more details.
Most of the food pantries in the region focus on helping the low income, unemployed, working poor, and families with children, and seniors. Food and aid will usually be prioritized for them. However most of the centers will rarely, if ever, turn anyone away from receiving assistance. Volunteers and other staff are committed to providing free food, groceries, and meals to as many people as possible. If they can’t help you meet you need, they will usually refer you to other locations in Summit County, or help you apply for federal government or state of Ohio food assistance programs.
