Free food pantries, groceries and meals Akron Ohio and Summit County.

Emergency food and groceries are provided by food banks, soup kitchens and pantries in Akron and Summit County Ohio. The leading distribution centers near you, churches, and locations to receive meals, free food, and other support are listed below. There is also a referral number at the bottom of the page. Many of the food pantries near you have limited hours and funding available, so it is usually recommended to call in advance for more details in order to get free food today.

Most of the food pantries in the Summit County region focus on helping the low income, unemployed, working poor, families with children, and seniors, including with Meals on Wheels. Any type of groceries from the centers and other forms of aid will usually be prioritized for them. However most of the centers will rarely, if ever, turn anyone away from receiving assistance.

Volunteers and other staff are at each food pantry. They are committed to providing free food, groceries, and meals to as many people as possible. If they can’t help you meet you need, they will usually refer you to other locations in Summit County, or help you apply for federal government or state of Ohio assistance programs such as SNAP food stamps or WIC. There are other USDA programs that can also be relied on to preventing hunger, such as surplus commodities or free school lunches. Or get free Christmas or Thanksgiving meals in Summit County from a pantry.

Many food pantries will also serve as, or have information on, local thrift stores and clothing closets in Summit County. These can provide items such as clothing vouchers, winter coats, or baby diapers and formula. These services are in addition to any free boxes of groceries passed out.
