The federal government funded Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher can help Michigan families. Low income, the elderly, and others can contact their community action agency or one of the public housing agencies in Michigan to learn how to apply for Section 8 housing assistance.
The state of Michigan section 8 housing vouchers often have a waiting list. Unfortunately the demand for housing and rent assistance is running at a high level, in particular with the weak economy. Funding is limited, and only a small number of qualified households will be able to receive assistance. Michigan will focus much of their assistance on very low income families with children, seniors, and the disabled, as those groups tend to be the most likely to face eviction or homelessness without any assistance.
