Richmond assistance programs.

Free health care

A clinic that provides free health care is available in Richmond, Virginia. The Health, Now! clinic will help those with no insurance or if they are underinsured. It also helps the indigent, poor, and seniors. The Health, Now! clinic is now relocated in the basement of Richmond City Hall to provide more room and services to those in need. Find additional ways to get help with medical bills and health care.

If you visit the clinic, you will pay only $15, but if a person is unable to pay for any reason, they will never be turned away. The free health care clinic provides primary health care, medical check ups, and it can even serve as a person’s primary care medical provider.

In addition, the clinic offer free drugs. There is an office for medicines and prescription assistance, however it is separate from the Health, Now! clinic and is located on the first floor of Richmond City Hall. If you need prescription assistance go to the commission chambers near the building’s rear entrance. In addition, if you are seeking prescription assistance or free medicines, you need to bring a list or the actual medication bottles of what you are currently taking. Dial 482-5500.

Another option is Fan Free Clinic was the first free clinic established in the Richmond area. It offers general medicine, primary health care, gynecology, pediatrics, and family planning to people who otherwise can’t afford medical or hospital bills. (804) 358-6343

Richmond, Daily Planet, Inc. offers primary health care, dental, prescriptions, and mental health care for people who are homeless or uninsured. Call (804)649-2119.

 

 

 

 

Free legal help and programs

The Central Virginia Legal Aid Society provides several free legal services and programs to low income, elderly, and others who can’t afford equal justice to law. The non-profit law firm can help people deal with foreclosures, evictions, domestic issues, insurance issues, unemployment claims, and much more. Emergency food, rent financial assistance, and other aid in Richmond Virginia

One of the leading agencies is Commonwealth Catholic Charities runs many services and programs for low income and others. The services and resources offered to those who need help include: foreclosure assistance, pregnancy counseling, emergency food and financial assistance for rent help and utility bills, adoption services, therapeutic foster care, ,debt management and elimination, mental health counseling, home care for the elderly and disabled, credit repair, guardianship services, services for refugee minors, domestic violence programs and services for the homeless and those facing eviction. Salvation Army of Richmond ((804) 225-7470) offers what is known as the Family and Emergency Services program that provides low income and other people in need with emergency shelter and food, among other services. To add more details, this assistance program supports thousands of individuals and families by providing for for basic human needs in the primary areas of rent assistance, housing, money for utility bills, free food and clothing or Christmas gifts.

 

 

 

 

In addition, the program provides financial assistance and cash grants for paying mortgage and rent assistance, funds for food, household items, seasonal assistance (Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.), and clothing vouchers. Learn more on Virginia foreclosure and mortgage programs.

Richmond, William Byrd Community House, Inc. - Offers emergency services which will assist eligible low to moderate income applicants with rent, housing and mortgage payments. Also get funds for paying utility bills as funds are available. In addition the Richmond Virginia non-profit provides free food for eligible applicants as food is available. CAPUP mission is to assist people and families who are facing a temporary crisis. To meet that goal, they can provide emergency rent help as well as free food. Call (804)788-0050.

Richmond City Social Services can help low to moderate income individuals, the elderly, and disabled. They offer rental assistance to prevent evictions and/or loss of housing. Funds can also help people who need a place to live by helping them secure new housing in an emergency. Money to pay security deposits to secure new housing and/or utilities and utility payments to prevent and/or reconnect services. There are also miscellaneous payments and assistance to creditors and vendors for prescription medicine, medical related items, emergency food, health care expenses, and shelter when other Richmond community resources are not available. Assistance paying heating bills

There are two federally funded programs in Richmond that will assist low to moderate income families with paying their heating bills. The first program, the Crisis Intervention Program (CIP), can pay up to $600 in heating vouchers to eligible Richmond and county residents throughout the winter. While the program will help many people, it starts by  enrolling those who suffer from a severe disability that can be proven through a medical note, and they also need to have a disconnection notice for their primary source of heat. However, after this enrollment occurs, the program will expand to include low income families, the elderly, and homes with your children at home.

 

 

 

If an individual or family is determined to qualify for this grant money, they can receive vouchers that are used to pay the gas or electric company. Money can also be used to pay for wood or kerosene or heating oil, until they reach their $600 maximum threshold in aid.

The second program is known as the, the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP). This will provide a one-time payment to be sent out to help households grapple with heating costs and bills.

That one-time payment that has been issued has averaged between $50 and $75 per family in the past, and the check is mailed out in February, according to the county’s social services director.

Homeless prevention and support services

Richmond individuals who are homeless or on the verge of losing their home can contact any of the following charities for financial aid. Receive everything from money to pay rent, security deposits, and services such as counseling and help finding a new apartment. Food pantries and distribution centers

Second Baptist Church (phone (804)353-7682) provides free food to the low income and others in need of help.

William Byrd Community House, Inc. - This center offers emergency food assistance and groceries to the entire City of Richmond Virginia and adjacent counties. Call (804)643-2717.

Tabernacle Baptist Church - Offers both food and clothing. Dial (804)355-0134

First Baptist Church Community Social in Richmond provides a bag of groceries and food to people up to 12 times throughout the year. Dial (804)353-2181.

Salvation Army Command of Richmond, which can be reached at (804)225-7470, provides food to families residing in the City of Richmond and surrounding counties.

There are other free food pantries in Henrico County as well. They also have hot meals, including at Easter, Thanksgiving, or Christmas.

 

 

 

 

Foreclosure counseling and prevention in Richmond Virginia

Southside Community Development & Housing Corporation is the area’s leading HUD-approved nonprofit public benefit agency in the area. The housing programs they run include homeownership preparation, foreclosure prevention and counseling, mortgage delinquency, and financial empowerment organization. (804)231-4449.
