Rental assistance in Cleveland and Rutherford County NC.

One time rental assistance will be provided to low-income families in both Cleveland County as well as the Rutherford NC area. Most of the financial help from charities, churches or the government, including grant money, that is used for paying rent or security deposits will focus on residents with an eviction notice. During the application process other solutions will be explored as well. As a low-income family may be able to get free legal services to stop an eviction, such as voucher or rent subsidized apartment and more. All the funds provided is targeted at addressing a housing crisis that may be faced by a struggling family, including single mom run homes.

There are various ways to get help with rent or homeless prevention in the region. In some cases, the best option for a struggling tenant is to help pay the security deposit or first months rent on new, affordable housing in Cleveland County. This will be emphasized even more so when the current home or apartment is just not feasible to live in.

Kings Mountain Crisis Ministry

Resources range from emergency funds for paying rent to free motel vouchers. The charity will also give referral to low income housing including no wait list apartments in Cleveland County.

Salvation Army of Cleveland and Rutherford County

A leading, regional non-profit. As a last resort, the agency may help clients apply for grants for rent or utility bill assistance, if they are facing eviction or disconnection of their services. The Salvation Army helps the homeless find a place to live, offers rental assistance to senior citizens in Cleveland County and give other support.

City of Shelby Housing Authority

Applications are processed for section 8 or public housing, and social workers may offer referrals. These are income based properties for low-income families in the community.

 

 

 

Supportive Services for Veterans Families is run by Community Christian Ministry. Call (828) 259-5314. They only assist veterans and their families. Everything from security deposit help to loans for back rent and emergency funding is offered. Staff also help address barriers to buying a home, assist with applications to benefits, and more.

Rent help is only for people with an eviction notice. All applicants need to meet income requirements. Other programs include clothing, furniture for a new affordable apartment, and funds for paying utility bills to stop an eviction.

Department of Social Services
On occasion, the government agency may offer rental or utility bill assistance to families facing homelessness. There are both federal and state rental relief programs for families in a hardship. Or they can help a family in poverty locate public housing.

Rescue Mission
There is both a women and men shelter. Other assistance may be clothing, and, once stabilized, referrals to rental and/or deposit assistance. The local office can also provide assistance to low income families facing an eviction. Seniors of all income levels can also apply. They also help single mom, seniors and the working poor find, and apply for government rental assistance or housing benefits.

The non-profit partners with the city of Shelby and United Way to offer immediate rental assistance in Shelby. They also arrange transitional housing and money for paying a security deposit.

Forest City Housing Authority

Low-income families in Rutherford County can get rent relief from Section 8 housing. Some people may qualify for emergency vouchers. There are other resources as well around affordable housing.
