Salvation Army Berrien County emergency assistance.

The Berrien County Salvation Army social services are extensive. The charity is involved in providing financial assistance, free stuff for basic needs as well as referrals to other human service agencies in the territory.   • Holiday programs may serve meals, offer free toys as part of Angel Tree, and offer other support around Christmas or Thanksgiving.
  • The Salvation Army supports senior citizens. They can stop by for a meal, request information on housing, and gain companionship.
  • A food pantry and thrift store offer groceries or low cost goods such as furniture.
  • Emergency financial assistance for heating or water bills, rent, prescriptions, or gasoline vouchers for a job is sometimes available.

They support hundreds of families living in poverty or people facing a crisis, such as unexpected unemployment or a medical issue. Other services may also be provided by the Salvation Army center in Benton Harbor, as noted below. When seeking assistance, be prepared for a full interview and assessment to be done. The center will need proof of income, residency, and identification from all household members. This can include a driver's license or social security card.

Free holiday assistance

These free meals are served to anyone, whether they are homeless, lonely, or if they can't afford the food on their own.

Financial help from Salvation Army in Berrien County

Berrien County Salvation Army housing programs are available as well. There are local shelters in Benton Harbor that provide immediate relief, but these may only provide help for a night or two. They can also be full. So the case managers can also direct the resident to other resources.

 

 

 

 

One of them will be financial aid. If there is a short term emergency, and maybe the low income family needs a few dollars for one month, then a small amount of money may be provided for the back rent. Also, some homes are not fit for living if the electricity has been turned off. Tenants faced with this need can also be provide a grant to pay their utility or heating bills. Or the Salvation Army in Berrien County can direct the person to long term solutions, such as LIHEAP in Michigan.

Year round food is available at the free Berrien County pantry. There can also be more holiday oriented groceries passed out from October to December. Note that anyone can stop by for assistance.
