Assistance from Churches

One organization to turn to for help with bills, rent, and other expenses is the Round Rock Area Serving Center. This is a Texas non-profit corporation, which is also known as the Serving Center. It has been tasked with carrying out the Williamson Texas community-wide mission of churches, charities, other non-profit organizations and individuals serving human needs in the local community.

Services provided by this association and the local member local churches include a food pantry, computer skills training, financial assistance for utilities, rent, prescriptions, transportation, and temporary lodging, the Round Rock Coats for Kids, Computers for Kids, clothing & furniture vouchers, community gardens, and the local Volunteer Center.

Health care for uninsured and underinsured

There are a couple local clinics to turn to if you need medical care and can’t afford to pay for expensive hospital bills. They include the clinics listed below. Or click here to learn about other ways to get free health care.

 

Lone Star Circle of Care - The organization, which can be contacted at 512-868-1124, is a nonprofit, federally funded and registered community health center that runs clinics throughout Williamson County and Central Texas. The free health care clinic provides a family and person-centered and behaviorally enhanced healthcare home. They offer a wide range of health care services for the medically under served and uninsured members of the community. Among other services, the clinic offers adult primary care, comprehensive OB/GYN services, pediatric primary care, senior care, general dentistry, prescription medications, psychiatry and behavioral health, and pharmacy services and free or low cost prescription medicines.

Samaritan Health Ministries - This health clinic also helps those who need assistance, have no or limited health insurance, and can’t pay for their medical bills. Receive quality urgent and chronic free healthcare services (including dental, medical, medications, mental health and pharmaceutical). The clinic focuses on the uninsured and other low to moderate income individuals who live in the greater Williamson and northwest Travis counties Texas. 512-331-5828.

Crisis Assistance

People in need of help paying bills and other expenses can turn to Catholic Charities for assistance. This organizations helps people of all religions.

  • Food aid - Emergency food aid is made available, free of charge, to anyone in need of a free meal. Individuals can receive access to a food pantry services once every 14 days for up to 12 visits each and every year. Locate more Williamson County Texas food banks.
     
  • Financial Assistance - Cash grants and financial assistance are available to people who need help. The grants can help with expenses that families may incur including rent, utility and air conditioning bills, and money for security and utility deposits. The program is known as Stronger Families Today case management.
     
  • Housing Assistance - Receive access to a variety of resources that can hep someone remain in their home or apartment. Catholic Charities provides funds for rent assistance, case management, outreach, housing search and placement, eviction prevention services, legal services and even credit repair. They are all services available to assist program participants with housing stability and to help people stay in their homes.
     
  • Referrals - If for some reason the Williamson Catholic Charities does not have the resources to meet your particular need, they can refer you to other Texas and federal government assistance programs.
     
    • Job Finding and Employment Supports: Job training, career advice, financial assistance, transportation assistance, education programs, resume writing
    • Basic Human Needs Resource: local community food banks, clothing closets, shelters, rent and eviction prevention assistance, government utility assistance programs.
    • Physical, Medical and Mental Health Resources: Medicaid and Medicare, health insurance programs, maternal health, free health care, medicines, Children's Health Insurance Program, medical information lines, crisis intervention services, support groups, drug and alcohol intervention and rehabilitation, and counseling.
       
  • Pro bono legal services - Volunteer attorneys that work for non-profit law firms can provide brief, free legal advice, counseling, and representation with civil legal problems or questions in the areas of.

Madella Hilliard Neighborhood Center - This non-profit agency provides the low income and needy with limited amounts of emergency financial assistance. Funds can be used to help pay gas, electric, utility bills, and rent. Low income qualifications need to be met. Salvation Army Taylor - The location Salvation Army has limited funding and may be able to provides temporary financial assistance for paying expenses such as rent, utilities electric, water, and gas, prescription drugs, food, and motel vouchers. 114 W. 6th St., Taylor, Texas 76574, (512)352-9313.

St. Helen's Catholic Church-Society Of St. Vincent De Paul - The church organization provides help with one or more of the following, provided funding exists. St. Patrick Catholic Church - Provides qualified low income with limited, temporary financial assistance for paying for electricity and utilities. St. William Catholic Church-Society Of St. Vincent De Paul - The church organization runs a food pantry. Qualified people can get clothing and furniture vouchers to be used at the local thrift store. Taylor Neighborhood/senior Center - Low income and working poor residents, who meet qualifications, may access limited emergency financial assistance for electric bills, gas, and housing costs such as rent. Emergency housing and rent help - Several churches, charities, and non-profits focus on offering funds to the low income for rent and housing expenses. Seniors, disabled, the unemployed, and low income are given priority. Click here for additional details.

Community clinics and low cost medical care

Williamson County and Cities Health District - This facility provides preventive health and medical care services (not sick care) for children and adults who do not have access to private health care. Help is available for both adults and children without access to private health care or who are underinsured. Georgetown Texas (512) 943-3640. Financial assistance for rent and bills in Williamson County Texas

The Caring Place of Georgetown Texas ((512) 869-4735) offers numerous assistance programs.

  • Provides the low income with one-time financial assistance with emergency eye exams and eyeglasses, prescription drugs, medical supplies, emergency dental work, and other one time aid.
  • Provides emergency financial assistance for paying housing expenses, rent and utilities (electric, gas, butane, and water bills).
  • The organization may be able to offer vouchers for new or gently used clothing and household goods to be used at Fabulous Finds, which is the on site Caring Place thrift store.
  • In addition to above, the non-profit may be able to provides additional financial assistance for bills and expenses on a case-by-case basis to help low income people reach self-sufficiency. Assistance is based on a client's special needs or crisis. Examples may include:
    • Employment expense assistance for tools, certification, uniforms, licenses, and work equipment.
    • Offers educational fee assistance and cash payments for GED tests, college textbooks, and continuing education.

St. Vincent DePaul, which is run by St. Helens Catholic Church, will help pay for and provides funds for help with a portion of rent, utility and cooling bills, and medicines and prescriptions. Also assists with providing free food. Phone (512) 868-1964

Williamson-Burnet County Opportunities - This is the Williamson County Texas Community Action Agency. The non-profit agency provides limited emergency financial assistance and cash grants to help with paying electric, utility and gas bills. Rent assistance is also available for qualified residents with low income. In addition, meet with a counselor to get help with completing forms for government assistance programs and offers referrals to community services. Get help with both Texas and federal government programs. Any assistance provided is dependent on available funds and resources. They are located in Georgetown, and can be reached at (512) 763-1400.
