Walker County Texas assistance programs.

Below is a sampling of churches, charities, and non-profits in Walk County Texas that can help struggling and/or low income families. Everything from funds to help pay rent, deposits or utility bills to free medical or dental care from clinics is combined with free case management or advice. The goal of the agencies is to offer short term financial help along with long term self-sufficiency, free clothing, household items, educational support and much more.

Emergency financial help for rent and bills

Families and individuals who need help can call the Community Organization for Missionary Endeavor (C.O.M.E.). Financial aid is available for Walker County Texas families only. Qualified individuals may be able to get help with utility bills, rent or housing expenses, medical bills, health care and dental assistance. Another Huntsville Texas program known as Project Unity - Walker can help people with utility and electric bills. They offer some of their own resources and can provide referrals. The organization provides financial assistance for energy and electric bills. Call (936) 439-0000

Walker County Texas foreclosure prevention

If you are one of the many homeowners who is struggling with paying their home loan, or if you are facing a foreclosure, an agency known as Credit Coalition (phone (713) 224-8100) can provide access to a housing counselor and information on mortgage assistance programs. Food assistance programs

Good Shepherd Mission is a local non-profit that may be able to provide groceries and free food, all of which are distributed to families in need of help. In addition, local elderly or disabled people are eligible twice for aid per month. Crisis situations are also considered. Call (936) 291-8156.

 

 

 

 

St Joseph's Church is located at 101 Elmore St. There is a small, low cost pantry on site with groceries, hygiene items, and maybe even Christmas meals. The location is New Waverly, Texas 77358, and phone number is (936) 344-6104.

Energy, cooling, and utility bill assistance

The Brazos Valley Community Action Agency, Inc. administers the various state as well as federal government assistance programs. The options include weatherization, LIHEAP, as well as the Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program (CEAP). Call (979) 846-1100.

The energy programs provide for Crisis Assistance, which can help with paying electric bills, natural or propane expenses. A so called Co-Pay program can help currently employed people pay their utility bills.

As far as conserving and saving money on energy bills, try the weatherization program as well as the Appliance Replacement Program. They can install energy saving improvements to people homes, such as windows, caulking, and other enhancements.

Health care and medical assistance

Families and individuals in Walker County and Huntsville Texas who are medically underserved, or who therefore have limited or no health insurance, or who just can’t afford to pay their medical or hospital bills, have a place they can turn to for help. The Brazos Valley Community Health Center, which is run by the community action agency (phone (979) 846-1100) offers quality care and prevention services to people in the community. The center offers medical care programs, dental assistance, Pharmacy/prescriptions, teeth cleaning, Medicaid screening and enrollment, Preventive care, and many other health care programs.
