Titus County Cares programs.

Homeless prevention services is available from Titus County Cares, and this may be in the form of shelter or emergency funds for back rent. Other support from the charity includes basic needs such as food and clothing from Good Samaritan, or holiday help from Empty Stocking. In order to receive financial aid, Titus families will need to have some sort of income coming in the door, and they will also need to participate in self-sufficiency and be on the path to stability.

The services are focused on ending poverty, especially for future generations of children. Any type of support will have a strict application process, and it will include proof of income, residency, and more. The support will be paid out as a hand up, and not a hand out, so the agency will require people to attend job training and similar workshops. Also, a priority is on families with children, the disabled, or senior citizens in Titus County.

Another focus is on senior citizens in Titus County. They may receive meals, or even home repairs from Handy Helpers. There is generally support from TCC for residents over the age of 65, and volunteers from the churches will try to meet their needs.

Workshops on self-sufficiency in Titus County Cares

The staff from Cares will refer clients to some or all of the following. These will help people either gain new skills, a job, or both. In almost all cases, these sessions are required in order to apply for financial help.

For those that need improved reading or writing skills, non-profits in the area hold Adult Basic Literacy Education classes. The main goal is to show residents how important adult education relates to long term employment.

A combination of tutors and teachers will assist people with enhancing writing, speaking, reading, listening, and basic math skills. Classes from TCC and others focus on traditions, concerns, family issues and goals which become the main focus of the agencies educational plans.

The employment services from partners of Titus County Cares provide individuals from the county with the training they need. Other components include job search, education and use of computer labs, and there will be many other career development resources they need for success. If someone needs work clothing for a new job, this can be arranged too.

There is also wide-ranging support both for the underemployed, and this is done in order to help them gain a decent living wage. There is also guidance for unemployed parents looking for full or part time jobs and for those seeking to retain employment. Other attendees are just looking for new skills for greater career growth.

Non-profits in the region are combining employment and career development with case management services, housing, and clinical support. The agency will also strive to give families the best possible chance for obtaining self-sufficiency over time.

Individuals from Titus County that are enrolled will receive an immediate needs assessment. Based on the results, there will be counseling as well as customized job search support services. All of this is arranged by professionals trained to work with low-income workers.

Many classes are held as part of the employment services. Participants will be able to benefit from one-on-one help preparing cover letters, resumes and job applications. There is also the free use of computers, and this will give people access to internet workstations to research the main internet job boards as well as employer websites. Even after someone gets a job, Titus County Cares and its staff are still there to give post-placement support with workplace issues.

Financial aid and basic needs from TCC Resource Center

Any funds are targeted as a hand up, and will give people time. The money, which is very limited, will assist families and help them overcome immediate barriers to achieving self-sufficiency. It is offered as part of the Good Samaritan initiative. The programs was created to help pay some bills and provide benefits and services to low-income employed families.

Applicants will need to be in need of financial help with essential supports to move out of poverty and become self-sufficient. So if someone maybe needs a portion of a utility bill paid so they can focus more on searching for a job, then this is an example of the use of funds. Or maybe an article of clothing can be bought using a voucher. Another objective of Good Samaritan is to remove families from a cycle of dependency on government entitlements and into work.

Emergency shelters are scatted in the county, and Titus County Cares can provide the locations to them. They can help ensure no family has to spend a night on the street. Not only will people have a place to stay, but social workers will give them food and help them overcome the barriers that caused them to be there in the first place.

When facing hunger, food pantries can be called upon. The locations in Titus County, which partner with East Texas Food Bank, will help families and senior citizens who need groceries and give them with access to it. Pantries may not only have canned goods, but some will also have fresh produce, milk, dairy items, and the like. It depends on donations and partners such as the Kings Storehouse in Tyler.

Food4Kids as well as snacks are offered by Titus County Cares. The goal is to prevent hunger for children, especially when they do not have access to free school lunches. Even on weekends, the Backpack Club will allow students to take a snack home with them to ensure they have food over the weekend in question.

Christmas gifts and toys are part of Empty Stocking. This is a church based program for children under the age of 16 in Titus County. There may also be free meals, and applications are required as well as proof of income.

Get help in either keeping or moving into a new, permanent home. This is what Titus County Cares rehousing as well as homeless prevention can accomplish. Resources are available to help transitions homeless or struggling families quickly into their own homes.

As part of rehousing, qualified applicants can receive a rental subsidy which allows them to focus on saving money and becoming self sufficient. There may also be grants to pay for the utility connection fees or even a security deposit.

On the other hand, homeless prevention is available from Titus County Cares (TCC) as a form of financial aid, and is a one-time cash intervention. There may be funds that will allow people to stay in their homes and avoid a disruptive stay in a shelter. When funding is allowed, grants may be used for overdue rent or past utility bills.

During this process, case managers work with individuals in areas such as employment, education, credit repair, and financial literacy. This will allow them to develop plans for their long term stability so they can pay the rent on their own in the future.

For more information, Titus County Cares can be reached at 903.575.9157. The faith based charity is at 310 N Edwards Mount Pleasant, Texas 75455.
