Sonoma County St. Vincent de Paul assistance programs.

Basic needs as well as emergency assistance from St. Vincent de Paul churches of Sonoma County may be able to help families that are in a crisis. Everything from shelter to free food, access to a thrift store or one time financial aid may be arranged. The staff also focus on those that live in Sonoma County and that would be most at risk without help, such as the elderly, children, immigrant and/or migrant workers or disabled.

The programs rely on funding from the local thrift store as well as the federal government grant process. Or some of the services, such as the food pantry, use donations from the community, such as churches or even businesses. All of this is combined by St. Vincent de Paul staff to provide assistance.

There are several local churches, or conferences, that participate in the programs. They include, but are not limited to, the following. Our Lady of Guadalupe in Windsor, Resurrection Parish and Holy Spirit in Santa Rosa, St. Elizabeth Seton in Rohnert Park, St. James in Petaluma, and Our Lady Queen of Peace in Clearlake. There are several others as well.

Free food and meals from St. Vincent in Sonoma County

St. Vincent de Paul food pantries and soup kitchens provide emergency assistance to families facing hunger. While at the center, clients can also learn about other benefits available in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, as well as the state of California.

A dining room/soup kitchen is on site. It uses donations from partners such as Redwood Empire Food Bank. The center is open 365 days per year and serves free lunch meals and clients can gain other support.

  • Food Stamp - Supplemental Nutrition Assistance, or CalFresh, can provide an EBT card that is accepted at most grocery stores. It can pay for a small dollar amount of groceries each month.
  • Summer Food Service provides snacks and meals to students from low income families over the break. All meals meet Federal Nutrition guidelines.

 

 

 

  • St. Vincent can help families and seniors receive USDA Commodities.
  • Vouchers can be used to help pay for baby formula from WIC.
  • Holiday meals and small toys, such as for Christmas or Thanksgiving.
  • information on government resources, even including using SNAP food stamps at farmers markets in Sonoma County.

People using the pantry to pick up a box of groceries can request information, or even intake sites, to those other federal sponsored programs. Between these resources available at the Society of Saint Vincent in Sonoma, they can go a long way towards reducing the amount of hunger in the area.

Additional support in Sonoma Countywide

The volunteers that are available at Sonoma County St. Vincent de Paul stock and staff a low cost thrift store. The store is open a few days per week, but the hours are in fact limited. The address of the store is at 5671 Redwood Drive, Rohnert Park.

While most of the individuals who shop there will need to pay a low price for the items they need, in some cases clothing vouchers are provided. These will be for very low income families or those in a special situation, and they are provided at the discretion of the Society. The money raised is used to fund their services and/or provide financial aid for bills and other expenses as well.

As far as people shopping there, anyone from access the area can stop in. Clothing, furniture, toys, electronics, books, dishes for a kitchen and other small household items are sold from anywhere under a dollar to tens of dollars. There are also supplies sold at a reduced price during the major holidays.

Individuals wishing to donate or work there are always needed. The store always needs additional clean and gently used items. If people need more information, or to drop off items, call or stop by the St. Vincent in Sonoma County main office. Also note that donations made to the thrift store may be tax-deductible in the state of California.

 

 

 

 

St. Vincent de Paul of Sonoma County Poverty Fighting Services help those looking to break the cycle. There is assistance for the very low income, homeless and at-risk. Vulnerable households are given access to a broad range of supportive services such as emergency basic needs assistance, money for rent to prevent homelessness, energy bill assistance and linkage to mainstream benefits and financial aid resources for low income households.

The purpose of the Migrant Services Program from Sonoma County St. Vincent is to assist immigrants, refugees, and the migrant population. The agency will help address needs in relation to health care, nutrition and education, along with any other concerns or issues. All clients are required to show proper documentation. They will also be required to complete an application with the assistance of a staff member at the church based offices.

Many immigrants need help building credit. Society of Saint Vincent works with partners in Sonoma County on this. As some type of decent credit history is needed to rent a home or apartment, get credit, and to really get on track as a US citizen. More details on credit building services for immigrants.

Open to the entire Sonoma County community, St. Vincent works offers an array of job-training programs that help job seekers with optimizing their résumés. They will also work with them on gaining skills required to obtain certifications that lead to success in the workplace. Thr goal is to break the cycle of poverty in the community.

Referrals to scholarships and financial aid programs are available for those who are income-eligible. Program options include Computer Skills Workshops, Help with Goal-Setting and Transition Management, National Retail Federation Customer Service Certification Course, Interview, Résumé, and Finance Training, and many more.

There are a few locations. A home visit is often required when applying for help. The main center for individual assistance is at  Rohnert Park, CA 94927, and the intake line is (707) 584-1579. However resources are available across Sonoma County.
