Charities, churches, and national organizations provide assistance during the Christmas as well as Thanksgiving holidays. Most of the agencies provide free toys or holiday meals. In addition to that, there may also be support given during some of the other major seasonal events, such as Easter.
The primary resource in the community is known as Toys for Tots. It is run in partnership with Unity Shoppe as well as the Santa Barbara City Fire Department and dozens of other charities. Volunteers and various group collect toys, games, and Christmas gifts for children of all backgrounds. There is assistance for immigrants, migrant farm workers, and non-English speaking residents as well.
Free toys are usually restricted to children under the age of 13. When it comes to a Thanksgiving or Christmas meal, any person in need can be served. The organization only support children from veterans and military families. Toys or gift cards are given, they organize Christmas and holiday meals for armed forces members, and clients can even get referred to financial aid too.
