Rockland County Salvation Army programs.

The non-profit Salvation Army of Rockland County is focused on assisting people that are in a crisis. They also can direct clients to longer term self-sufficiency programs. The objective of the various services coordinated by the staff at the agency is to help people maintain their stability and independence. They operate from a couple different locations in the region.

Whether it is assistance with utility bills, rent, or food, social workers from the Salvation Army will direct help clients to resources in Rockland County or the town of New City. They do their best to connect people to solutions that will allow them to continue to be stable.

Assistance for food to prevent hunger

Free food is available from the organization. Pantries will not only offer groceries but they will also provide other necessities, such as clothing and personal hygiene items, to individuals year-round. There is a focus also on ensuring children or senior citizens have the food they need.

The pantries in the region are set up to be client choice. This means that the client of Rockland County Salvation Army is able to select only the food they need. So if fresh fruits, rice, canned goods, or even baby formula is needed, if the pantry has it then the person can select it.

Meals on Wheels is for the home bound. It will allow the senior citizen or disabled person to remain independent and living at home. Besides receiving a low cost, healthy meal from Salvation Army in Rockland County, there are many other benefits from the service. The clients will have a visitor stop by too. So they will in effect enjoy daily contact as well as someone to check up on their well-being. Usually a free lunch is brought to the home. This is usually for seniors age 60 and up. But as noted, other individuals who use this resource may be disabled.

A soup kitchen is also available in New City. The menu at the center is varied and the meals are both healthy and tasty. Hundreds of struggling people receive a warm meal and companionship each month. Options include a hot daily meal, Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday items, and more. Clients can be very low income and the homeless even stop by Rockland County Salvation Army.

Rockland Salvation Army emergency assistance

One-time, direct financial assistance is available. The non-profit may issues cash grants to help families with a crisis. There may be funds to stop homelessness and other emergency needs. So money may be issued for rent, utilities, transportation and certain medical needs and prescription drugs. There may be gasoline vouchers or help for prescription glasses as well. All resources are limited.

They also run the Fuel Fund in the region. This particular resource ramps up during the fall and winter months, and financial aid is targeted at helping seniors and the disabled pay their heating bills. The Salvation Army can screen for this program.

Proper documentation is needed, such as proof of income and identification. This will only for for residents of the county, however immigrants can also seek help. Applying families are eligible to receive support up to a certain dollar amount. Clients will also be referred to self-sufficiency in Rockland County New York as per below.

The Case Management process helps clients in challenging circumstances. Social workers from the Salvation Army Family Corp center work with individuals in an effort to help them maintain their stability. So whether it is employment or just financial literacy needed, this will be arranged by the non-profit.

Basic needs and holiday programs.

These programs from Rockland County Salvation Army mostly rely on donations. The aid may also be combined with the food pantry resources above. Any assistance includes, but is not limited too, clothing, Christmas toys, limited housewares and more. They will be provided through the thrift store and other holiday support.

Free Back to School resources are for students in the local Rockland County districts. They will be able to receive school supplies through the Backpack Program. Registration is in the summer months, and the program runs first come and served. There may be free uniforms, notebooks, backpacks, and more. The support relies on local churches and donors from the community.
