Emergency support from McLennan Benevolence Ministry.

The non-profit charity agency known as McLennan Benevolence Ministry helps struggling clients maintain their stability and independence. The goal is to provide short term help for solving challenging circumstances while directing individuals to the resources and services that can resolve the issues that threaten their self-sufficiency.

Individuals and families in need of either free or affordable food and other basic necessities can turn to the Ministry for help. The agency operates a pantry that is open year round to local residents. However the hours of availability each day will vary. Approved applicants can select groceries they need to their diets and budgets.

Meals on Wheels is a service that delivers low cost, hot meals each weekday to the homes of individuals who are at least 60 years of age. Disabled individuals who are under the age of 60 also qualify for this McLennan Benevolence Ministry program if they are considered to be home bound and meet income limits.

The menu is varied, and the meals are nutritious and meet certain USDA requirements. Clients can choose between a hot or a fresh meal that can be reheated at a later time. So this means there may be frozen food provided in some cases. Meals on Wheels helps clients remain in their home and offers them daily contact with the trained volunteers who deliver them.

The organization administers an emergency financial assistance program in McLennan County that offers information and referrals. This is offered to any resident in a crisis. This program connects clients with both non-profit community resources as well as government resources that address basic needs, such as housing, rent and utility service.

If found to be qualified by their partner organizations, then financial assistance may be available to families facing a crisis. This service can be used to help cover the cost of critical expenses. Any aid is available from the organizations that people are referred too, so applicants need to meet those conditions in place.

Funds may be issued directly by the Benevolence Ministry in some instances. They will be used for paying utility bills (including from Atmos), rent, prescription medication and even glasses. In addition, the Ministry may issue gasoline vouchers for job interviews or some other emergency.

The education arranged by the non-profit includes intensive, client-centered workshops and individual counseling. Furthermore, specialists from the agency work with clients to create detailed plans to help people solve the problems that brought them to the brink of eviction or homelessness.
