Help from Macon Program for Progress.

Many of the services from MPP, or Macon Program for Progress, are focused on children as well as their parents. The non-profit will help a working or single parent access child care or Head Start. For those adults that need a job to better provide for their families, MPP can coordinate assistance for those needs as well such as the workforce investment act.

Housing and low income rental subsidies

Very low income families can get help with rent and housing needs. The federal government's Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program provides vouchers to very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled. The purpose of the vouchers is to enable them to find and pay the future rental costs on decent, safe, and sanitary housing of their own choice in the private market.

The Macon County regional program provides the tenant with a subsidized monthly rent payment, paid directly to the landlord on behalf of the participants. However the family also needs to contribute, as they need to pay the remaining amount that is not covered by the HUD voucher. Note some places in Macon County North Carolina do not require a security deposit to be paid.

Section 8 participants that are part of the Macon Program for Progress service have the opportunity to find their own home to live in. they can select single-family homes, mobile units, townhouses, or apartments in locations throughout Macon County North Carolina that they prefer. They are not limited to choosing only units in subsidized housing projects. Find more details on section 8 homes for rent with no security deposit.

There are requirements in place. The housing selected must meet program requirements, and landlords must agree to using the voucher to pay the rent under the program. Under certain circumstances, section 8 may even be used for a home purchase in North Carolina.

Income and work resources from Macon Program for Progress

Macon Program for Progress helps with employment needs. The purpose of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) is to help participants improve their career prospects and prepare them to be successful employees. Program services include financial assistance or low interest loans with tuition, books, and supplies for community college courses; job-skills training and scholarships.

Depending on federal funds, WIC can also arrange for support services that include clothing or uniforms, transportation costs, car repair expense, child care, and/or work-related tools. Each participant is assigned a case manager from MPP, who manages and coordinates all needed services, to optimize the chances of finding and retaining suitable employment at a livable wage. For more, the telephone number is 828-369-9534.

The Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS) provides guidance and support to qualifying clients who are willing to make a commitment to working toward greater stability. Staff members from MPP will help people gain the education and access to job training they need to obtain gainful employment.

The Macon Program for Progress Self-Sufficiency Coach assesses each individual's strengths, unique goals, and barriers to self-sufficiency. The process will touch upon developing a plan of action for achieving goals and becoming self-sufficient. FSS will also help Macon County North Carolina residency access car repair, credit counseling, clothing for interviews and work, job connections and referrals; credit counseling; and self-sufficiency coaching and support.

Education and children services

The federally funded 0-5 Head Start Program from MPP offers comprehensive child development services for low-income pregnant women and children from birth to five years of age. It can also help single moms in the area. With an overall goal of ensuring that children are well-prepared to enter kindergarten, 0-5 Head Start programming encompasses a number of different developmental domains that are vital to children preparing to begin school.

These other Macon Program for Progress services include general knowledge; physical well-being and motor development; social and emotional development; approaches to learning; language development, and literacy. Additional assistance programs from 0 to 5 Head Start include educational activities that support children's cognitive, emotional, and social development. This ranges from physical and mental health to nutritional needs. As part of this effort, parents are strongly encouraged to be actively involved in all aspects their children’s educational process.

Free of charge for eligible families, Head Start is available in Macon County as center-based program that also includes in-home visits and parent/teacher conferences. MPP's Head Start service serves dozens of three to five-year-old children each year, and Early Head start serves a similar number. Sessions take place at three centers (two in Franklin and one in Highlands) most months of the year. The classes can even last up to six-hours per day.

Parents and their children can access state-of-the-art facilities. The Macon Program for Progress locations have computers as well as free internet access in each classroom. The locations also have newly finished playgrounds, both of which are major assets for the children's development. There are also other free communication options, including telephones or tablets. Or get other phone bill assistance.

Federal and state of North Carolina Subsidized Child Care Services that allow for increased classroom time, both during the weekdays and throughout the year are also available at the Head start centers to assist parents who work or attend school. Fee amounts for Subsidized Childcare are determined based on a sliding scale.

The MPP Extended Day Child Care 0-5 is a service that is available for parents who work or attend school and need full-day, full-year child care. This can fill the gap when when 0-5 Head Start is not in session or during the summer months when the child is not in school. The program offers consistent, convenient, high-quality care in the same physical space as 0-5 Head Start. There is financial aid available to pay for this as well as MPP accepts subsidized vouchers from the Department of Social Service for Extended Day Child Care 0-5 tuition.

NC Pre-K is a state-funded program provided by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Division of Child Development and Early Education. Integrated with the Head Start resources indicated above, NC Pre-K provides high-quality educational experiences. Everything offered to the student is based on the North Carolina Foundations as well as Creative Curriculum, and it will ensure that eligible very young students are ready to begin school. Macon Program for Progress can help parents apply for it.

All MPP classroom staff members are required to have at minimum a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Sciences degree. So the qualifications are high, and they need this in order to be offering early childhood education. Students attend MPP's Pre-K throughout a full 180-day school year, six hours per day, five days per week.

To be eligible to attend the Macon Program for Progress program, children must be four years of age by August 31 of the program year and they scheduled to begin kindergarten the following school year. Priority is given to applicants who come from low income households in Macon County. They tend to be underserved through any other preschool or child care program. Several additional factors positively influence acceptance into the Pre-K program, including Identified Disability, Family Income Level, as well as those residents with Limited English Proficiency or that have parents in the Armed Forces Service.

Another development program is the Parents as Teachers Service. This too is free of charge to all parents of children under the age of 6. Services include personal visits with a certified educator, during which parents receive timely information on brain research of infants as well as child development.

The clients can participate in parent-and-child activities that promote social and language development, intellectual growth, computer training, and motor skills. The programs from MPP also strengthen the parent-child relationship. Studies have shown that children whose parents participate in Parents as Teachers score higher on kindergarten-readiness tests, as well as in standardized measures of achievement in the early-elementary grades.
