Lauderdale County assistance programs

Organizations that provide help with bills

In Meridian and Lauderdale County Mississippi, there are various charities and other organizations that can offer assistance to low to moderate income people, senior citizens and the disabled. They can provide help with utility bills, rent, and the other expenses that people are faced with every day. Find information on the organizations below.

Multi-County Community Services Agency

This is the local community action agency. They offer resources and assistance for a wide variety of bills that people are facing. One of the resources offered by Multi-County Community Services Agency is an utility bill assistance program. They provide help for paying electricity and/or gas bills for any utility company. There are some income guidelines, that will partly depend on the number of people who live in the home of the applicant.

The MCCSA community agency will pay a utility bill that a local resident cannot afford to pay. The money they provide is not necessarily a one-time cash grant that is just handed out, but instead each application will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, so people can receive assistance more than once.

In addition to that program, MCCSA also offers a weatherization program that is designed to reduce future energy costs for eligible clients. It does this by making their homes more energy efficient. There is no cost to applicants, and all the improvements are free to the homeowner. The weatherization program focuses on assisting primarily the disabled, the elderly, and low to moderate income families with young children.

Some of the other resources offered include education assistance grants, emergency food and clothing , rent and mortgage assistance, job training and employment assistance, foreclosure prevention, and debt assistance.

To receive further information from Multi County about these services, or other options they may have, call (601) 483-4838 or 1-800-898-0659.
