Clark County and Las Vegas church assistance programs.

Las Vegas Nevada churches provide support to the poor, unemployed, and immigrants in the community. Each and every parish relies on donations from its members to keep these assistance programs running, and when members of the community give back, this is when a church can step up to assist the less fortunate.

A major focus is on ending hunger, so it is most common to get a free box of food from a church run pantry at parishes such as Mountain View. There are also congregations that offer much more than that though. Any support is for a crisis only, and when approved, the assistance may come in the form of a voucher to pay for gasoline for a critical appointment, money for partial rent payment to stop homelessness, clothing, and much more.

Since there are some many churches in Clark County that may assist, it is recommended to call for referrals to the nearest parish. That intake number is below. The caller will also learn about the hours of when applications can be submitted, whether a church has funds or not, and other application criteria.

As noted above, preventing hunger is always a goal. There are thousands of children from low income families in Las Vegas that do not know where their next meal is coming from. Immigrants, the unemployed, and elderly are also a few others that commonly request food from a church, but anyone can ask.

Many religious groups, such as First Baptist Church of Las Vegas which is at (4400 West Oakey Boulevard, Las Vegas, Nevada, 89102, phone 702-821-1234) or First Baptist may be able to assist. They have donated canned goods for the poor, provide free baby formula to new or single moms, and pass out produce too. The hours are limited, and in general the pantries can only be used once every couple months.

The needy in Clark County can also call on their local church for other social services. The programs range from support for the homeless, such as water, access to a shower, clothes, soap, and hygiene supplies. These services, from locations such as Lutheran Church Social Services at 73 Spectrum Blvd. Las Vegas, NV. They may be reached at 702-639-1730. They may not only help the homeless, but they can also assist immigrants and Latinos that are new to Clark County.

Churches in Las Vegas also want to pro-actively work to stop homelessness. Hardships can be caused by many factors, such as a job loss, divorce, death of spouse, or other crisis. Lack of transportation to work (if causing a crisis) can often be addressed too by programs such as gasoline vouchers. Anyone that is impacted by a serious even that was out of their control should reach out for financial help from the church that they attend.

Either money or referrals will be given. Some, such as Lutheran Social Services of Nevada (address -73 Spectrum Blvd., Las Vegas, phone 702-639-1730) may be able to help pay for some light bills or rent. Or they can arrange for other short term housing for the individual. Even when a church just does not have any money to help pay rental costs, the volunteers at the parish may have other suggestions for the applicant.

Supplies can be provided by either the food pantry or a clothing closet at a Clark County church. Members of the community, local businesses, and other groups donate surplus items to their congregation. When they are in decent shape, centers such as First African Methodist Episcopal Church at 2446 Revere Street, North Las Vegas, NV, 89030 (dial 702-649-1774) may provide the items to the poor.

This is also how their holiday programs operate. Churches in the county serve meals at Thanksgiving, Easter, and Christmas. Kids can also be given free toys or games to play. Not only may families in poverty benefit from these holiday programs held by groups such as Second Baptist Church (dial 702-648-6155), but senior citizens as well as the disabled can also take part and get assistance at Christmas from these services.

People give back to the Las Vegas region by offering services to those in poverty. Churches are often involved in organizing these. This is when a medical team may open a clinic at a location, or auto repair shops donate their time to fix a car. Volunteers can also address transportation needs, provide resume feedback, and help clients learn about resources.

There are also fund raisers held to help people pay their bills or rent when they are sick, holiday food and gift drives, school supplies, and much more. Parishes such as race Valley Christian Reformed Church are involved in these. The address is1370 E. Robindale Road, Las Vegas, Nevada, 89123, or dial 702-454-9328.

For referrals, text your zip code to 898211 and information on Clark County churches and other programs in your region will be provided.
