Salvation Army assistance programs Kerrville Texas area.

The Kerrville Salvation Army helps dozens of low income families each year. The assistance, including financial, is a stop gap measure. It provides time to the applicant to get the long term support they need, which the Salvation Army center in Kerr County can also help with. Whether it is employment, rent help, free food, Christmas toys or school supplies or substance abuse services, assistance is available.

Many of the clients of the center fall into the category of being elderly, single parents with kids, disabled, immigrants or under-educated so can't get a competitive job. This is in fact a focus of the Salvation Army in Kerrville; that is given a hand up and not just a hand out. So the case workers tries to help the client overcome their hardship.

Emergency funds to pay bills

Using money raised from volunteers as well as sale of goods at the thrift store, there may be some emergency funding for paying bills around housing, rent or medical. Also the self-sufficiency component will try to assist with expenses related to employment, namely transportation, clothing, or work supplies. While there may be some funding available, it will also be limited.

The primary uses of financial aid are for the following expenses. The Kerrville Salvation Army may assist with housing costs including rent or utility bills. Medical costs paid can include for needed equipment (crutches, wheelchairs) or prescription drugs. The utility help will be to pay for gas, electricity, or heating to keep power on.

Salvation Army free case management Kerr County

Breaking the cycle of poverty, under-education, and debt is a key service. This is a major part of case management. Therefore the Salvation Army works to assist their clients with gaining financial stability. All barriers are accessed. If the client needs rehabilitation or a job, or if they need to know how to budget, all of this and more is arranged.

Kerrville Salvation Army homeless shelters can keep people out of the cold. They can also help during extreme summer heating. A few beds are available in the community that a homeless person can use to get a roof over their head. Also, during the hot summer months, the location will serve cold beverages, provide free box fans for home summer cooling, and provide support in other ways.

Free food, holiday, and school programs

Food pantries are also part of the emergency programs. Clients of these centers can drop in for a box of groceries or to get a hot meal. During the major holidays of Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas the volunteers at the centers pack special holiday meal boxes. These will contain meat, turkeys, toppings, and the like. But the pantry is open a few days per week, all year round. Call for hours. Or find free food pantries in Texas.

Kerrville Salvation Army back to school and Christmas programs are offered. The center has volunteers that participate in outreach to the community. They try to collect surplus toys, uniforms for schools, and clothing such as shoes, winter hats, or gloves. All of these are then given to children during the back to school or holiday seasons.

These are donation programs and the items are first come-served. They go by the name of Angel Tree or Adopt a Family. The kids will complete a “tag” that requests what they want, and efforts are made to give them those gifts. Since the school and Christmas assistance programs are donation services, only a small number of requests can be fulfilled by the Salvation Army.

Other help is allowed for children. The church based charity will give them a box of food or hot meal to address hunger. There are also free summer camps, after school day care, and tutoring/mentoring services. The Salvation Army in Kerr County case managers realize how critical it is to get youth on the right path as early as possible. So they work to help the younger generation of kids in the region.
