Jasper County Missouri and Carthage Salvation Army assistance programs.

The two Salvation Army centers in Jasper County Missouri provide support to low income and/or struggling families. The range of services includes everything from financial help to vouchers, food, tips on job placement, and counseling to victims of abuse. Other assistance is also available, and if a center in Carthage or Jasper can't assist, they will provide the client referrals.

When it comes to families in a financial crisis, there may be emergency support given to them. The Jasper County Salvation Army can, as resources or donations allow, assist with the following.

  • -Free groceries, fruits, formula, and more from the client choice food pantry.
  • -Funds may help with paying bills in a crisis, including heating, water, or rent.
  • -The pantry may have non-food items, such as free winter clothing, school supplies, diapers, soap, hygiene supplies, razors, and more.
  • -Free box fans to keep seniors or the sick in Jasper cool during the summer.

In combination with the emergency social services is the case management, or Pathway of Hope program. This is the service used to empower families and help them break the cycle of poverty. It is often used in combination with the other support service above. So when a client is given food or money for paying their rent, they are also given the tools they need to empower themselves.

Salvation Army caseworkers, both in Jasper and Carthage, serve as a resource for the client. They will try to motivate them, advise them, and give them the support they need. There are also workshops held in regions such as Jasper County, and they focus on everything from financial or debt counseling to employment and help to victims of abuse. One focus in the Jasper Missouri area is on ending homelessness, and the charity works with partners on this to tackle the root cause.

Senior citizens, since the number is increasing in Jasper County, are always a focus of the church. As people age, their income may be flat or even decrease due to relying on social security or a pension. Some costs, such as for medications or health care, often increase as well. So the Salvation Army tries to provide them additional help.

The Salvation Army in Jasper County also offers free Christmas gifts for kids. Or their may be turkeys and meal baskets for parents. This is part of their holiday services, and it relies on donations to programs such as Angel Tree. Donors, partnering with the Salvation Army, work to bring Christmas joy into the lives of the most vulnerable.

During a disaster, whether it is a flood, tornado, or another event, the Jasper County Missouri Salvation Army steps up to the plate to offer help. They respond in an emergency to various disasters or natural events, and they offer immediate support as well as referrals to long term guidance in the state or county. Whether it is “practical assistance” (such as food, meals, or shelter), or emotional support the disaster relief is a very important service available.

There are multiple Salvation Army centers in Carthage County, both of which partner together. Both operate to meet the needs of the community, and they offer some or all of the following. One site is at 125 E. Fairview St., Carthage, Missouri 64836-1554. Dial the office at 417-358-2262. Another Salvation Army office is based at 320 East 8th Street, Joplin MO 64801.
