The company has implemented and automated service that will ask for certain information, so you will need your Social Security number or IPL account number. A confirmation number will be provided to callers once the payment arrangement or extension has been confirmed, and be sure to keep that number for your records.

To inquire about receiving financial assistance in paying the bills on your IPL account, dial 888.261.8222. Customers can also decide to try a face to face visit, so they can also stop by the Customer Service Center at 2102 N. Illinois Street during regular business hours.
Whether you ask for an extension or a negotiated plan, IPL will evaluate each situation individually. They will review your hardship claim, past billing and payment history, and more. The goal is to see how they can help. In some cases that may refer a low income customer to a local community agency for help, or direct people to apply for government aid like LIHEAP.
Another Energy Assistance Program is offered by the Community Action of Greater Indianapolis, Inc. This agency runs the federal government funded Energy Assistance Program (EAP), which is also called LIHEAP. This resource is available every year, and it is another tool that can assist lower-income customers with paying their winter heating bills. Appointments are prioritized for the elderly, disabled and crisis customers that live in Indianapolis.
Many IPL households that enroll into the EAP program will also be eligible for energy conservation from weatherization. This is when a community action agency will work with customers to help them save money on their utility and heating bills from improving their home.
The Winter Assistance Fund is paid for and administered by the United Way. This resource can provide financial assistance and cash grants to families who are not eligible for any other energy bill assistance programs. Indianapolis Power and Light customers can apply for help through the Winter Assistance Fund by going to their nearest township trustee, Salvation Army, or community center.
