Free fans and cooling assistance from Horry County Salvation Army.

Most years the Salvation Army of Horry County tries to help low income, seniors, and needy families beat the heat. The charity organization is involved in collecting fans and possibly air conditioning units and then providing these items to the needy. The non-profit is also involved distributing cash to needy families in Horry County. All of the programs are focused on helping people make it through the hot South Carolina summer.

Recent statements from the Salvation Army indicate that they have more people than ever coming to them seeking help. Energy, utility and cooling bill assistance is one of the services that are in highest demand.

One of the greatest needs they see is during the summer, and it is from low income and seniors who need to stay cool. The requests also include financial assistance with paying utility bills. During the hot and humid summer people are just trying to stay cool. So free fans and other aid may be able to help meet that need.

In past years a program known as the FANtastic fan drive was initiated by the Salvation Army. The organization is here to help Myrtle Beach, Conway, and Horry County families pay a portion of their utility bill. Or if that can’t be done, they will try to provide a free fan to help keep people cool during the summer according to the Director of Social Services for the Salvation Army in Horry County. The non-profit will distribute to the elderly and the needy whatever dollars or fans are received and are on hand.  The need for help during the summer is that great.

Most of the assistance programs work off of donations from the community, including individuals and local businesses. All donations are tax deductible. Fans can be dropped off at The Salvation Army’s Family Store, which is located in Myrtle Beach, 212 N. Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The main office of the Salvation Army Social Service Office is located at 1400 Church Street, Conway, SC. Individuals can stop by there for information and access to all of their resources, including emergency rent assistance, case management, food, and more. Phone (843) 488-2769.

To make monetary donations to the summer cooling programs, money can be sent to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 500, Conway, South Carolina 29528. Funds will go towards buying fans and/or direct assistance for paying cooling and utility bills.
